DD's team checked in to the USA Softball Nationals last evening. Out of 15 bats, 4 were rejected, all of them Louisville Slugger. 4 Xenos, one LXT, all 2016...

Thoughts?

There could be a number of reasons why bats are rejected - cracks, rattling, unraveled bat grip, broken endcap, shaved, etc. As for why so many, I would say it's a statistical thing - the more there are of one brand, the higher chance of that brand being pulled. But that's what I think - others might chime in with other reasons/thoughts. Lol.

Last year we had some bats fail on one machine and pass on another, so I would suggest taking the bats that failed testing to another testing station if they did not confiscate them.

It wasn't a compression issue on any of the 4 bats, all 4 were loose at the connection of the handle to the barrel - they all had the "wobble". Two were really bad, two not as bad. All passed at state two weeks ago.

Pic from several years ago of Easton bats pulled from ASA nationals for loose connections.

Lots of things pass at state that don't at nationals. I think rosters are the most common issue. Or maybe that's mostly a slowpitch thing?

This means that the connection between the two pieces of the bat is failing and the bat is more susceptible to breaking apart. Any wobble felt in that connection is grounds for removing the bat. If it is less than a year old, it should still be covered by the manufacturers warranty. It is a common issue with two-piece bats.

Just curious: anybody seen a bat come apart? I haven't, but I only attend 150 or so games a year and a couple practices a week where players are beating machine balls senseless with two piece bats.
