Back on the dirt...
I looking for reviews on helmets for my 11yr old DD. She had a fairly large melon for her age. She's been using a Wilson for two season but it's coming apart and quite honestly should have been replaced already. Really wanting something light weight and more comfortable. She just needs a helmet.

Thanks in advance.

Comfort will vary depending on head size and shape. In the market for helmets recently (to replace a Wilson), my 12yo DD tried quite a few and ended up with an Easton M10. I prefer some of the design features of the All-Star, but it simply didn't fit her head right. Her teammate is now wearing the All-Star we bought, and is very happy with it.

Unfortunately, in her first game with the Easton, my DD took a very hard foul tip straight to the cage, and is now recovering from a mild concussion.

That's what i really like about the Wilson is the cage absorption. I know shchutte has a good rep w football helmets but I don't have a place to try them on. Just wanted to get some opinions from those that have used them. Thanks for the reply

I don't know if the Wilson would have made a difference in my DD's situation or not. It was a pretty significant shot. I also like the way the cage on the All-Star is mounted - no mounts at the forehead, ear mounts on rubber bumpers.

Both of my daughters have been wearing Schutt Air Max helmets. They're great in every way. Even American made! I caught for well over a decade. It's very very well made and worth a look

It's not light, but the Mizuno Samurai has the "best" padding in my experience.

My 10U daughter uses the entry-level All-Star as it fits her large melon well and it was also the lightest of the group I weighed (MVP2310 model). It's served her well. The added bonus is that it's quite inexpensive.

Right Here For Now
DD has had the Schutte Air Maxx for the past year and a half. She's taken numerous foul tips off of it with no issues. The helmet incorporates the same TPU padding technology they use in their football helmets. She also said it was the coolest temperature-wise out of all of her past helmets and won't wear anything else. In the past she's had the Wilson Shock FX 2.0, the Easton Mako and the All-Star Series 7.

I am also interested in this thread. DD's helmet has definitely seen better days but she is also hard to fit due to her large melon - I ordered in 8 helmets before we found one that she liked on the shelf at Dick's Sporting Goods 3 years ago. Her batting helmet is a Schutt and she loves it but it is an XL which fits 7 1/2 - 7 3/4 and the catcher's helmet only fits to 7 1/2...
