Firstbaseman's Glove

DD plays pitcher and first on her current team and HC has asked her to consider a first baseman's glove. She does pretty well with her 12.5 Worth Liberty Advanced. Does a 1st baseman's glove make a big enough difference to consider getting one?

Thanks,
Ken

DD was considering getting one since she plays some 1st base in college but her coach told her not to. He said since she was used to her 12" A2K for 3rd, to just use a larger glove for 1st, so she uses a 12 3/4" there and has done really well with it.

Back on the dirt...
Its late and it seems like everyone is playing in a tourney but us cause we are posting on the forum.lol.

I'm going to say yes due my experience with a 12.5 vs a 13.5 fortus. DD uses a 12.5 and I bought a 13.5 for a friend. Caught with them both and can def can tell a difference based on size alone. The shape and style of a 1B mitt would lead me to believe they make a good bit of diffence. I'm sure some one else with more experience will chime in.

Added I can agree with the larger glove size being enough. Just don't have enough experience with 1B mitt to say yay or nay.

Hi Ken,

She's probably just fine with her comfy mitt. Just be sure it's it great condition, including the lacing.

The deal with 1st baseman mitts is that they're completely closed. So, you're eliminating any space between the fingers and lacing that would hold those fingers together.

If she plans to play alot of 1st sack at a higher travel level or beyond HS, I'd then probably recommend the investment. At a minimum, it's cheap dental insurance. ;)
