Just bought a nice 11 1/2" Rawlings fielders glove for darling daughter. She is a 14 year old. When I buy her batting gloves, she wears adult small. I tightened the wrist strap as much as I could by moving it with the laces to the tightest adjustment spots.

Dd had two 12" Nokona Buckaroo gloves prior. Both had Velcro wrist straps. I noticed today she had the Velcro wrist strap cranked so tight I couldn't even get my hand in it. My hands are bigger and I would call the wrist strap on the Rawlings snuggish when I put my hand in it.

She has been loving on the new glove but she has not caught balls she normally would and when I finally got tired of it and asked her about it she says the glove moves around on her hand too much. She can't get the wrist strap tight enough.

I am not sure if she just needs to adjust to a different style of glove and wrist strap or if I need to figure something else out. It seems like the glove she has should work... I would like to get away from the Velcro but migh not have any choice.

Any thoughts?

Does she wear a batting glove inside her fielders glove? I've seen so many girls over the years just constantly crank down on their velcro strap, non stop, almost to the point that it's a habit. Not saying this is the case here, I'm sure she's still getting used to it. Good luck, hope she gets it figured out.

My dd had the same issue. I took her glove to a shoe repair place and they added velcro to the strap so that she could tighten it more, it made her feel better and wasn't expensive at all.

Usually no on the batting glove but she has been with the new glove. I will have to ask her why.

She cranks it down when she gets it and the strap never moves again! Slips her hand in and out without loosening it. I'm not at home but maybe I can add a couple holes and get it tight.

Do you think it's ok that she uses it that tight? I just think it's kinda weird that the whole rest of the world can use a glove without the strap so tight but she has become accustomed to the strap being like that.

I have had DD's catcher's mitt Velcro repaired and replaced at our local shoe repair shop. I would take it in and see if they can move/replace it.

This is a good idea. Can you post some pictures? I want to see how they did it? Did they add material to attach the velcro to? It seems like it woul need some more material to turn back. What did they use for a turnbuckle?

I was going to suggest taking it to a shoe repair place and getting them to shorten the strap and relace. You could also just use a drill to punch some new holes and dont yourself if you don't need to shorten the strap any. I have lost a lot of weight and i had to drill new holes in all my belts.

I think it is just a personal preference. The wrist openings vary widely from glove to glove. Personally, I like the velcro for younger or smaller players.

Hey Westwind, go to Youtube and search Dirty 30 videos. You can re-lace the wrist lap to the tightest setting using the Wilson/Pedroia type wrist mod. Don't give up on a non-velcro glove just yet!

Here you go: start at around the 7:30 mark.

EDIT: Ww, I think they may be discontinued now, but Rawlings used to sell thick wristbands that wrapped around the wrist lap, they had velcro on them so you didn't have to un-lace the wrist to put it on.

I had to do the Pedroia mod posted above awhile back on my daughters Vinci. She has small wrists I used To always have to stick extra Velcro on her 8u/10u gloves.
