My DD team used the Rip-It helmet since first year 10U now there are first year 14U. They recently joined an organization that uses Schutt and my DD absolutely loves it over the Rip-It. She says it feels like a perfect fit. I am not sure if all Rip-It helmets or Schutt helmets are built the same but the Rip-It that DD used had foam padding and her new Schutt has a gel or air type of cushion which I believe is why she likes it. She also says that it is much cooler which is a plus living in the South. I personally prefer the Schutt design and look over the Rip-It but that is all personal preference. I am not sure if everyone on the team has the same feeling towards the new helmets just one girls opinion.
My team has used both Schutt (2015) and Boombah (2016). Both helmets have a great fit and I feel are equal in protection & quality. Boombah also has some great color combo's!
Dd's team wears Schutt. She thinks they are ok - not as snug on her head as she'd prefer. But she has a tiny head.
We've tried adding extra padding but it still isn't perfect.
My DD has/had always used Rip-it helmets, when we joined our current organization for her first year 14U they ordered Mizuno helmets. I *think* it was either the model MBH250 or MBH252? Anyway the first time I held it, it felt like a cinder block compared the her Rip-it! She, and all the girls on her team love them! My DD took the Rip-it out of the car and hung it on the garage wall, she never looked at it again, I gave it away 6 months ago. The Mizuno is a little heavier but it has great protection!
The Junior/Senior helmet is causing problems for my DD. Her head is too big for junior helmets and too small for senior helmets. I guess I am going to have to get a fit kit.
Hey I know I had a positive review of the Mizuno that my DD and her team likes but I personally liked the Rip-it better myself, but I'm not wearing it! The Rip-it helmets are very good helmets, you can't go wrong with one. And my comments on our team Mizuno helmets were in no way a slam on Rip-it!
