DD is 8 years old, 4’9” (and growing), and about 80 lbs. She’s been swinging a cheap 30/19 aluminum bat that came off a bargain bin a couple years ago (she thought it was pretty and I’ve held on to it in the hopes that she’d grow into it), but Santa might be bringing her a bat for Christmas and I need some help.

DD’s hitting coach doesn’t believe that brand matters too much at her age, but for her size and strength he really likes the length and weight of her current bat. But I’m having a hard time finding a -11 youth bat, or if I do find one it’s not a 30-inch bat.

So, any ideas? Is there a good bat for young hitters that isn’t labeled as a “youth” bat? Is there a manufacturer I don’t know about that recognizes that sometimes young kids are giant?

(And I'm okay with a used bat as a backup bat but Santa would really like to put a brand new bat under the tree this year.)

I just purchased the DeMarini CF9 2017 (-11) for my DD. I bought the 32" version, but they have it in 29" and 30". I had been researching this bat for some time, and it seems good. My DD had not tested the bat yet, as I bought it at Dicks Sporting Goods online yesterday Cyber-Monday at 25% off. She was able to hold it and feel its weight at our local store, and she said it felt really good.

They don't have any discounts today, but if you subscribe to their email, they put away a lot of discounts. I.e., last Friday they had 20% off. A few weeks back, they also had 20% off... so assuming they will have some discounts during December as well. Link below:

Hope this helps.

Just keep in mind a -11 is not always a -11. You should check out Eric's Bat Weight Database post. That aluminum -11 probably weighs close to sticker weight, but 2 piece composite bats are usually over weight.

At 8yo, getting the latest model top-level bat is not an expense that generally makes sense (IMO).

As a good place to start, I would look into the -11 and -12 models in your budget listed here...CLOSEOUTS: Fastpitch Bats -

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to take some time and look at these.

And I agree that DD doesn't need the latest model bat. But it would be so much easier if she was still using a 28-inch bat like most of her teammates!

In a perfect world, under $200. (The further under $200, the happier my husband will be.)

You can find 2016 LS Xeno in a drop 11 for for right at $200 or even slightly below. Keep in mind when your daughter outgrows that bat you should be able to sell that Xeno on Ebay and get about $100 back for it.
