How do you judge when the appropriate time is to move to a heavier bat?

DD is currently 12, 6', 190ish. Swings a Xeno 33/23.

Thanks for the help.

Old bat is always in bag if she wants to use it, she will figure it out.

(That is a good size bat, not sure she can get too much bigger. :))

Your 12 year old is 6 feet tall and 190 lbs? Even for that size that is a pretty big bat if she is facing quality pitching.

When my DD was growing and moving up in bat sizes, I would put a choke up grip on the end of the bat to let her get used to the extra weight, then would remove it after a month or so.

DD started with a 34/25 her freshman year - she is 5'8" ~150-160 lbs. Very strong and athletic. Before that, she was swinging a 33/23 and coaches said it was like she was swinging a stick she picked up off the ground. She adjusted to the 34/25 pretty quickly and has not looked back. Can't offer much else. Get one...let her swing it and get a feel for it. If it doesn't work, keep in bat bag until she's ready to try again.

Your DD is HUGE! LOL.

Based upon your DD's height and weight, she could benefit from moving up an inch in length to a 34 inch bat. As far as the length to weight ratio goes, a -10 is an excellent option. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and what your DD is most comfortable swinging. Practice makes perfect. Take her to the batting cages with a -9 and a -10 and see which one she prefers.

Based on her height, I would expect that a 33 is probably on the short side. If there's a way to test a 34, it's definitely worth a try.

Your DD certainly has the size for a 34. My DD is 13, 5'9" and 190 ish, she has been swinging a 34 for a couple of years now. Swings a 34-24 Mako at the time and is asking to move to a -9 or -8.

This is very interesting, because I'm in a similar boat. I have a 6'1 190 girl on my team that just turned 13. She is very athletic, with a quick bat. She currently swings a cf5 33/23 and has tons of power. I was curious if she would benefit from either going to a drop 8 or 9 or moving up to 34/24
