How much actual performance difference in drop 10 vs 11

10 year old DD currently swinging a 31/20 CF6 Sprite. Her asst. coach questioned the -11 last fall. At hitting practice last night her head coach approached me and mentioned he thought she could benefit from a -10.

At 4'9" and 85ish lbs she bats 3 or 4 in the lineup. Is she really going to see much difference in performance going to a 31/21?

I do not know if it can be defined, so much goes into a hit ball.

The sprite is a good bat, see if you can find a good 31/21 that she can take some cracks with.

The sprite is going to be better than some random aluminum 31/21, so it need to be a good bat.

About 6 months ago, my 10yo (at the time) DD went from a CF6 31/20 to a Miken Freak Black 31/21. It seems to me that the frequency of hard-hit balls has increased. However, this may be just as much - if not more - to do with continued improvements in her swing and hitting approach, than it is with the change in bat. This kind of thing is often hard to quantify.

I'm caught in this same type of paralysis by analysis scenario. Both DD's have been swinging a 31/21 Easton (FS1) the last year. They've both grown a bunch and will likely continue throughout the next couple years (they are 13, 5'2" and 100 & 115lbs) with pretty good mechanics. Coach wants to move them up to at least a 33/23. Been debating the CF8 vs Mako and pretty much zeroing in on the Easton. The debate however is since the Mako's average .75 - 1.00oz above stated weight and this will be a relatively big jump should we consider the Mako in a drop 11? Both girls have swung the Mako 33/23 and said it feels good but we haven't had a chance to really get outside and hit some balls or use a Zepp on it to track and note any differences. No one at our practices has the Mako 33/22 to test out either. Thoughts? Is the 2 inch increase in length and the 2 - 3oz increase in weight too big of a jump? Coresoftball20 has been very helpful getting me to this point by the way!

Tatonka - IMO, 33" is usually too long for 5'-2", and the jump you're talking about is pretty significant. That said, if they like the way it feels, that's a good sign.

That's a pretty big increase but then again it would depend on the kid. My 5'8 18 year old still swings a 33. She has tried moving up to a 34 but always goes back to the 33. She says she is just not comfortable with the 34.

For reference...My 11yo (5'-2", 105lbs) is swinging a 31/21, but has a 32/22 waiting in the wings for the very near future. When my older DD (5'-3", 110 lbs) was playing HS ball, she used a CF6 32/21.

Mighty big bat (33/23) especially for the 100 pounder. The drop 11 might not be a bad idea but I know many on here frown upon such things.

North River - I am sorry, just realized I hijacked your thread! Similar question though what's the benefit?

Thanks for the responses so far, and you're all in line with what I've been wondering about. I should add that they will be playing 16A this year and facing a big change in pitching from what they were used to.

Keep in mind that the Easton Mako -11 is really closer to a -10 so who cares what people think:)
