I haven't used this but various studies have shown that there is no advantage, and likely a disadvantage, to swinging a weighted bat in the on deck circle.

That seems like too much weight the be effective as a training device. Slight overload can be good. Adding 50%-ish to the bat's weight, not so much.

I don't think it's even for training as you can't actually hit balls with it on. Just for warm up swings, I think?

For overload training (actual hitting) just use athletic tape to tape washers to the bat until you get approximately 20% over bat weight.

A wood bat works, too. They can be had for cheaper than this device.
