GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) - The relentless desire for more/better gear.

During my years racing bicycles, GAS manifested itself in the longing for things like the latest Italian shifters, carbon fiber handlebars, and light-weight wheels. As a musician, GAS was an aching lust for vintage guitars, tube amps, and microphones. For my wife, her GAS includes shoes and purses from a specific maker.

Now, with softball, it's not about my own selfish desires anymore, but the GAS-fueled fires still burn plenty hot. The latest composite bats, finely-crafted gloves, and colorful rolling bags all come tumbling into focus. It's an easier sell now, however. Convincing my DW that I really needed ANOTHER guitar wasn't always a smooth road. "It's for our DD!", is harder for DW to argue with. ;)

So...what's your latest purchase, or what is currently giving you GAS?

Ok, in the last month I've bought the following:

An LXT
2 CF7's (don't ask)
1 more Worth 2Legit (to go along with the one she already has, they break alot, don't want to get caught without a backup :) )
And......the FedEx guy just dropped off a new Miken Chill today (It was shiny and I just couldn't resist it)

I think I mainly suffer from BAS (Bat Acquisition Syndrome). I already have so many gloves I've lost count.

I like finding deals. 2011 Xeno for $150 on Ebay when all the rest are 400. An Easton Stealth for $150 when the next year they were all $300. DD has a ton of gloves from inexpensive Rawlings and Mizunos to Nokona. Bags...sheet I have 1/2 dozen in the basement. 2 Maxballs. Don't get me started on helmets. I am that guy with an eye towards the deal.

We've made three "major" purchases this year. DD decided she liked the feel of a one piece bat, so we picked up a near mint 32" SCN1B for $160! DD's favorite purchases were her two Vincis, a JCV-VM catchers mitt and a BV1929-L fielders glove. Casedawg gave us a great deal on the pair! Sold off four other bats this year (down to just the 1B now), so I broke even on equipment this year LOL! I've got an almost new set of Schutt catchers gear for sale if anyone's interested. We're going to need a new set this fall!

I knew the GAS would be strong with this flock ;)

About 2 months ago, my 15yo DD was the overjoyed recipient of a 32" CF6 Sprite. Shortly after came my 9yo's Vinci JCV-22.

Currently, my head is spinning with the options for 14" leg guards and the next bat(s) for little DD.

Well...that didn't take long. DW just green-lighted the legs - I didn't even have to sell it very hard!

Schutt S3 legs (14", black/grey) on the way!!
