Interesting to see what the pick up rule is.

If you are referring to #41, it allows the pick-up to come from and adjoining metro/state as the adult game now it.

That needed changing. 43" did not even seem to be on the discussion list....

It wasn't. It doesn't need to be as long as a fair amount of 14U includes those eligible 12U. The "Keep-up-with-the-Jonses" mentality does, IMO, keep parents and teams playing above their natural classification. The pitchers who are capable of competing at the 43' distance are already playing at 16. Those who are not that competitive are still playing at 14 and they need to keep it where they can be competitive. The reason it was changed for 16U was to stay consistent with HS and 14U players are not HS players.

You have a really black and white view of the world and you never sound that happy or pleasant about it.

A question was raised and I gave the exact reason why it is the way it is.

In my neck of the woods, there are numerous 14u teams with lots of freshman on them. I don't have to look further than oh my niece's team and over half the teams she plays. We live in a heavily populated area, and this is what the parents and coaches choose to do.

Congratulations, but the rule is for 50 states plus, not just your neck of the woods. In "my" neck of the woods, some 16yo pitchers don't do overly well with 43'.
If you constantly have rules because of how things 'really are' and not written into the rules correctly (categories), then the written categories need to be changed. Stop having a 14u altogether and make the HS age play on only one or two levels, then.

The fact is the girls are strong enough to do it, and can. ASA is a slug on this.

Obviously, you have your own ideas of what is right. I suggest you write proposed rule changes, have them endorsed and submitted by a voting council member and I'll see you in Dallas next November.

You know, I was concerned about how 14U pitchers would handle the 43 foot distance too, but they seem to be handling it just fine. You see more hits than you did in the past, but it isn't the horrendous struggle I thought it might be.

I felt the same way when the 12U pitching distance went from 35 to 40 feet.

Anyone have any information on what rule changes passed?

Nothing specific to FP and only one playing rule which is purely semantics on an intentional interference play by a runner on a ball which has already passed a fielder.

As far as 40' vs. 43', I don't know of any school system that has a Dec 31 cutoff date like ASA does, so yes, most 2nd yr 14U players are in HS. I am curious if they have considered possibly changing the age groups and doing away with 12U and 14U and maybe going to 16U and 13U. That would really make more sense to me. If you change 14U to 43', the 1st year players will complain, if you don't the 2nd year players complain.

My daughter's team transitioned from 12 to 14u this year and played non-ASA for the fall. 43' wasn't a big issue and I liked the premium it places on defense.
