A recent search for a decent backup bat made me ponder this, based on things I have read:

So, in theory, 1piece bats are more stiff, 2piece inherently more whippy.

In reality, do you see/feel noticeable differences between the two types?

Do stronger/weaker hitters tend to gravitate to one or the other type?

I would agree the 2pc bats are a bit more whippy. I think the bigger/stronger girls get the most out of them. I have been an easton stealth 2pc fan since they came out but the new Easton Synergy that came out really caught my attention. No more joint to get sloppy and every bit the pop of the stealth.

According to the "experts" at Easton, the 2 pc bats are for the weaker hitters. Stronger girls have more of an opportunity to break them and should stick with the 1 piece. At least, that's what I read.

There doesnt seem to be a whole lot of recent data on this out there. A two piece doesnt have to have more whip, it depends on the materials used. Any video or stills that I have seen on the whipping action has bending occuring after impact, not prior like you see in a golf club. One theory was that one piece bats (stiffer handled) have a larger sweet spot. other suggestions have dealt with vibration and trampoline effect. I have cut several two piece bats apart now it from what I have seen, it is the method used to join then that determine how soon they will fail at that point.

My DD likes the 2 piece composites since they don't hurt her hands like the one piece composites do . Batting gloves didn't really alleviate it . She hits about 10 feet further with her 2 piece composite than she does with her 1 piece composite or aluminum bat . She is 5' 3" and weighs 120 pounds .

The TPS Xeno is THE best two piece bat. The Stealth is also good.

One piece bat, the Demarini CF5 is really good.

May bats nowadays have good pop but the Xeno works really well for both stronger and weaker batters. That's not true with some of the others. Some bats that are really good for stronger batters won't do much for weaker batters.

2 piece composite bats are less expensive to manufacture - i.e. higher profits... I've been a fan of Miken for this reason. Miken bats are all one piece (with one exception that I'm aware of). Miken tried to cut corners with the Epic (2 piece) last year but quickly backed off with that model. Anyway, the engineering that goes into manufacturing a one piece composite bat is substantial over a 2 piece.

The CF4 and CF5 are both 2 piece bats according to Demarini's website ? Maybe I am misunderstanding what is meant by a 1 piece or 2 piece bat .
