PGF seeds brackets based on a ping pong ball draw.
Seems that way nobody can get butthurt on who they play when

When they first started doing that people accused PGF of "fixing" the seeding. After that they started streaming the drawing and that shut everyone up.

True, Sparky. But I wonder why they bother to play pool play games at nationals. I understand they don't want anyone showing up for two and a barbeque, but it is ridiculous that they play these exhibition games when they mean absolutely nothing. I don't think the way they do things is any better than the rest, unfortunately.

I personally like the way that PGF Nationals does not seed the pool play games. That does not mean that I would like to see that for all tournaments though. Not seeding for pool play allows coaches to play the girls that are not quite as good as the top 9 players. Since the pool play games don't really mean anything you can save your stud pitchers for bracket play also.

That is typically the way it's done. You don't see too many 1 seeds playing each other in any NCAA sport before the Final Four, Frozen Four, CWS, etc.

There are generally a lot more "experts" ranking the seeds for ncaa play than travel ball. Likely more common opponents for ranking accuracy as well.

You beat me to it.

March Madness got this right a long time ago. No need to mess with the set-up. Pool play to determine seeds, then the brackets. I like two brackets if there are lots of teams -- that obviously cuts down on the time needed, but helps sort and match the competition even more.

So pay a committee to comb through the rosters meticulously so that they can more accurately seed a softball team of 11 year old girls for a tournament in Branson, Missouri?
