My kid is 9. So I don't know, but how do High School try-outs tend to go? Do they run them through drills?

From what I hear last year our coach ran them through drills for first half then set up 2 teams and scrimmaged. With all of the fall workouts they probably have a good idea who can do what.

Coaches are different but for the most part yes, they run them through drills.

We always ran a typical practice schedule with the exception of timed base running. Each player had the opportunity to field ground balls, fly balls, throwing drills and hitting drills. I had two criteria, talent and coachability. My coaches made certain to find something to correct and work with each girl individually. If she was a primadonna who wouldn't listen I was not interested. If she was rough but would take instruction and get better, I would consider her.

Tryouts are to put more than talent on the field but a team. A team is more than just one girl. In my opinion

DD is freshman and finished try outs last night. It was 3 days, with the 3rd day being a scrimmage. The first day they did Infield/Outfield drills and hit. 2nd day separated out P and C with rest doing same as day 1, and then the scrimmage day 3. No idea if that is typical. DD made Varsity as a freshman and was super excited. 8 freshman made varsity, so it there should be good years ahead. I really, really wanted to go watch the scrimmage on day 3, but I didn't want to be that parent.

We had 3 days of tryouts. Had to make cuts. Not fun but we did so face to face with every player who tried out. We had drill work on both defense and offense but with the weather had to put a lot of emphasis on hitting and cage work. First real practice tonight. We had gym floor and cage for 2 1/2 hours. It went too fast but was a very good practice. We wrapped up with live arm to hitters. That is always fun.

So you sat in your car in the parking lot with binoculars? Not bad...

My dd's school has been holding workouts and open gyms for the last 3 months.... "tryouts" are a legality by this point... we knew who made varsity, JV, or not at all a long time ago, its just not "official" until next week

Same here.. they have been holding "voluntary" workouts since second week of September. I wonder what would happen if a kid came out of no where and walked on as a stud
