I accidentally “thanked” this post- not my intention. I am very sorry that your dd had a coach that ruined the their love of the game. It is heartbreaking to see and experience. However, I strongly disagree with your comments of how the coach would be canned if they were a male. In the world of sports there are PLENTY of male coaches who keep their jobs year after year while causing mental and emotional trauma to their players.

That’s a fair statement and looking back at it from a different point of view I have to agree. They probably aren’t keeping her because she is female, it’s probably because coaches of women’s sports in most high schools are hired for the convenience of the athletic director not for ability. After all, we don’t want to take any time away from looking for more football coaches or distract us from getting our precious end zone cameras bought.

Two weeks ago I gave a presentation to a school board about Title IX and why it is necessary. Hopefully that helps forgive my lapse.

When it comes to school sports (at least in my district), knowledge or experience in a sport is not at all necessary. They are looking for anyone willing to do it. My daughter loves her volleyball coach but he’ll be the first to admit that he never played the game and is still learning it

A little late to this party but I'll throw my 2 cents in. DD is a one sport athlete. As good as she is at softball, she was probably an even better soccer player. We had schedule conflicts all the time, and she always would choose softball over soccer. Sometimes this was OK, other times it really put her team in a bind. It just was not fair to the soccer team to occasionally miss games, practices, or tournaments. There was just too much of a time commitment for both sports, so ultimately she picked softball. On the flip side, now she has a bunch of girls that do play multiple sports (mostly basketball & volleyball) on her ball team so we are constantly looking for guest players.
