How does your org handle jersey numbers?

Haha. Some Parents really do set themselves up to ruin it for the players. This jersey number thing is such a waste of time. In the 8 seasons my kids been on this team I’ve never heard a mention about jersey numbers until this woman brought it up at a uniform meeting. She went off on some tangent about a coach giving another girl her dds number when they were 7 or 8 years old (coach held 2 jerseys behind his back and let them pick one. And her kid didn’t pick the right hand or something) Apparently 4 years later, she never got over it. She felt because her kid was older then the other girl she should have a right to it...even though they were both new to the team.
Her kid got the number the following year and is still that number so now she’s adamant that her kid keeps that number no matter what, which has put the other coaches to try to create some complicated system where they have to try to predict who in future years could end up on a team with the same number as someone else then have those players change their number in this season even though there ins no guarantee any of these girls will be playing a year from Now. It’s totslly nuts and likely gong to delay the jerseys being made in time for their first tournament in April. So sad.

In our org, every team handles their own numbers and jerseys orders (from the available options we make available to them).
If you change teams within the org you --MIGHT-- get lucky, but you should always expect to buy new uniforms when you change teams. Even in our org the uniform set can be very different as we have multiple options they can choose from. If it is THAT important to someone (and it isn't), they should choose choose an unusual number if they want to increase chances of keeping a number over multiple teams.
