This is for a travel organization. I really don’t know how they can control this because players come and go all the time. They are assuming the same players will be in this league long term and that’s just not the case. All I know is if they take my dds jersey number away after using it for the past 8 seasons and she is also this number in VB, she’s going to be very sad. They really need to watch it

All of my kids played at various levels of competition throughout the years. Some were able to maintain the same number across multiple teams and multiple sports (which was kind of fun); others were not able. As the competition level started to increase and your players get a little older, you/they have to let go of some of these things. There are far more impactful ways for their spirits to be crushed as they advance.

DD has always been #23. The only time she wasn’t 23 was freshman year of HS when the senior catcher was 23 so she was 32 that season.
She thought she might lose her number in college but they ended up getting new uniforms so she was able to keep 23.
Her first travel team wouldn’t let you take a number that was used by someone who could overlap with you. Her first few club teams it was first come first serve and some players needed new uniforms every year because they switched to a different team and a returning player on the team already had the number.
There was an issue where 3 new players all wanted the same number and I think the coach had then flip for it. They all wanted 6. One ended up 6, one was 9 and the third was 66.

Every travel organization I've ever been with handles jersey numbers the same way.

Returning players by seniority have first choice of the numbers per age level if there are multiple teams. If it's one team it's handled the same way.

If two new players want an available number the organization would let them try and work it out. If that failed, then it went to a coin flip.

I've never witnessed a parent making a big deal about a jersey number. But, then again, These were top level teams and replacement players were usually
easy to find and insert into the roster.

My DD was #16 throughout her JO playing career. When she got to college a senior had the number. She wore #6 her freshman year. After that she had her number back. Tell your DD it's not what is on the outside of the jersey that's important. It's what's inside that counts.

Many years ago I had a 10U team that only had 2 returning players. I gave them the option of changing numbers first if they wanted to. Everyone else was new to the team and the organization. I wrote the numbers 1-11 on pieces of paper for a picking order. I Put them in a hat and had the girls draw a piece of paper without looking at it. Once all the papers were drawn I had hem check the numbers. They were then able to trade picks among themselves. It all worked out in the end. Everyone got the number they wanted.

Pretty simple really. Naturally 2 players on the same team can't have the same #. If 2 players want the same # the one who has been there longer gets it. If they "arrive" at the same time flip a coin. Why would anyone care if a player on another team in the organization has the same #?

That one and the Ray Ray thread were Internet HOF material. Wonder what ever happened to ray ray?

Whatever happened to, his name escapes me right now, to the guy who had pitcher DD. He used to film her from the roof and made all kinds of videos of her and posted them here?

True.
I've witnessed teams with both a #3 and a #03. They play heck with gamechanger!
