Ok first want to give a big shout out to my boy EricF and his dd MaddieF for making the Varsity team. I was looking back and trying to find a thread I started. Someone gave me the tip to make sure I take lots of pictures, for which I pass on to you Eric. Lots of pictures man!!

Moving forward, my WarriorAngela's HS team has gone down in strength this year. Angela is the only seasoned pitcher on the team. Coach is developing another pitcher as I type this thread up. Team lost 11 seniors last year, which included our second pitcher. WA should be getting a lot of pitching time, plus with her stick, I was told she will be the number four batter in the lineup. The team is comprised of many inexperienced players. The two out of the three seniors that moved up from JV to Varsity always look like their eyes are going to pop out of the sockets when they bat. Its a bigger stage for all of them.

Going to be an interesting season.

I’m not sure how to feel about this season. DDs senior year and I’m afraid it is going to go by waaay too fast. After finishing state runner up in 2017 and winning it all in 2018, this team is going to have a target on their backs for sure. We lost two senior outfielders who were two of our three speedsters. One is playing for Kentucky, the other is at Chattanooga State, a nationally ranked JUCO. We are going to be without our starting 3B for a while after she broke her finger in gym class which required surgery.

We still have a very talented team and I do expect us to return to state this year, but it takes talent and a little luck to make it to the final eight in the largest division in TN. We have a great senior ace pitcher and two talented sophomores in the rotation. Our infield will be as good as anyone’s IMO. We are going to need a couple underclassman to step up and fill some big shoes in the outfield. Offensively, we still have a lot of power. 49 HR’s last year spread out over nine players. We did lose 9 of those HRs with our seniors though.

We are headed back to Gulf Shores, AL for the Gulf Coast Classic (week two) to defend our championship from last year. This is a good early season tournament and is a great measuring stick for where your team is talent wise. Some of the best teams from TN, AL and other states will be here.

She will be awesome.

I am not sure how this season will go. My DD is a junior this year and will be the #1 pitcher and bat either 3 or 5. We have all sorts of experienced talent with the best players all being juniors or sophomores with a 4 year starting senior at SS. However the coach is making it a real grind for them already and we haven't even started playing yet (next Wednesday). We have the talent to win it all but like last year by season's end they are just ground down to nothing and can't wait to get to travel. Schedule is fairly brutal as well - 10 of our 18 currently scheduled games are against teams that made the final 4 in their division in state last year (4 of them won) so it could just be which way the ball falls on the day whether you get a win or a loss. We shall see.

Should be a good season for us as well. Finished 3rd in state last year, losing only one player. Its gonna be a tough year, as it maybe my oldest DD'S last year. She's on the fence about playing after highschool. Sure has went by quick, now its almost over, Damn!

Just out of curiosity, how do you all know where your DDs are going to bat? Have you had discussions with the coaches, or are you just making educated guesses based on last year, who's on the team, etc.?

Because I can't imagine a coach would have that conversation with a parent, and while I sometimes play around with lineup ideas this early, there are days where I'm figuring out the batting order on the way to the game (mostly because someone ended up being absent or something that messed up the original plan).

In my DD's case the coach told her. He has these big 'Your role on the team is...' conversations with each player right after tryouts.

And it was where she batted last season and with no new additions, seems a safe bet.

Our coach told us his strategy in the lineup . Let me know Angela was 4

This makes sense, especially since I assume it's nothing like a promise and more of just explaining the plan, which we all know can change for a bunch of reasons.

I never really considered talking about spot in the batting order when I do the "role on team" meetings this year, but I might, at least for those for whom I think it's important (not sure it matters much if someone might hit 6th or 7th, but our leadoff hitter should probably know that's where she's going to be).

Hoping for a good conference run this season. Last year dd was the starting pitcher as a freshman on a team with only 2 other travel players. Our conference is tough - it draws players from a couple surrounding states (private school). We lost to the powerhouse conference teams by only a run or two last year. This year we added 3 more travel players to the roster, and we lost only 1 senior. We should have more power in the lineup this season with two legit power hitters coming in and a lefty slapper. Should be a very exciting season for us!
