DD's season just got shorter. Broken ankle at practice Wednesday. Meeting with the surgeon first of next week. In a cast she would be out 6-8 weeks but with surgery she is looking at 3-4 weeks. Stinks for her because this will be the third year in a row she has lost time for a different injury.

This will be DW's and mine 4th year coaching HS ball, and the first one without DD1 since she graduated. We realize we were fortunate to not have to worry about who was going to pitch for the last 3 years because DD1 was there. We have two sophomores that can pitch and both have potential, but neither one has done anything to distinguish herself, so it's looking like we'll be platooning them until one steps up. We've only been able to get one game in due to this wet weather we've had. We made it to the quarterfinals last year (we lost to the eventual champion), and we only lost 1 senior starter (DD1) so we have high hopes for this year, but we were rewarded for our accomplishments with a promotion to the next division. Additionally, my hopes in luring EricF to become my neighbor proved fruitless. :( We did, however, have 3 freshmen make varsity and we have only 2 starting seniors this year, so we look like we'll be ok depth-wise. Additionally, we know of probably 3 eighth-graders coming our way next year (including DD2) who will all probably make varsity as well.

I hate to hear this. Prayers for a speedy recovery! Sounds like she will be back when it counts!

Major bummer! I pray she heals quickly and keeps her spirits up.

Well, DD was shut down by her orthopedic dr. today. Been having some serious throwing pain. Scapular snapping syndrome and scapular bursitis. Her range of motion in the throwing arm/shoulder was awful. Nothing for two weeks other than stretching to regain range of motion. If that goes well, some resistance work before beginning throwing program. If pain persists after regaining range of motion, looking at MRI/possible torn labrum. Going to miss at least a dozen games including preseason and regular season. Not the start she was expecting her senior year.

This sucks. I assume from your avatar that your daughter is a catcher? My daughter rehabbed "thrower's shoulder" (the catch-all term for biceps tendinitis and/or rotator cuff tendinitis) 18 months ago, and rest was the only solution for us. Even now, our daughter complains of a sore shoulder after a couple of games, especially if she has more than 2 or 3 throw downs/pick offs per game. I keep telling her the solution is to make sure she throws out the first girl who tries to steal.

Hope your daughter gets better quickly. In GA our HS season is Aug/Sept/Oct, so we're in full-tilt travel mode.

Thank you. She is a catcher, but I need to update the avatar. That was from freshman year, lol! She had a bad pop Monday at practice and was the worst it had hurt her. Been dealing with it since last summer, but it had been manageable. We shut her down for November and December, but it showed up again. Practicing in 30* temps probably doesn’t help.

We’ve got some travel ball friends in GA. From Ringgold, Dade Co. and down south in Cairo. DD played travel with them when they were middle school age.

Just going to say (and I know it will come as a shock) I am jealous and so is DD. HS softball is a fall sport here and DD is missing it. It was hard and challenging and pushed her in ways she'd never been pushed before. She saw ugly sides of coaching and parents and girls and still is sad she has to wait until August for more. Good luck to everyone!
