Olympic softball on a grass field? Why bother?

I don't particular care about grass infields...I could live with that. What will be bad is if they use temp fences or 2nd base and the base paths are on the grass. That wont be a good look and clearly makes softball the afterthought/second class.

I'd rather they just play it on turf and be done with it.

The baseball mound goes into the ground and is covered in turf, so yes all of the bases will be on turf and you will have a vast open area behind home plate just like the back 40 at Disney. So in the absence of a temp backstop look for 2 bases on a passed ball. The good news is that in Fukushima most of the radiation has been cleaned up from the nuclear disaster in 2011. :)

I don't like this at all. They bring cost into the equation like a softball venue would break the bank. $1-2 million for a separate venue in the grand scheme of things for the Olympics isn't a whole lot.

I guess they have played on a baseball field before. Not sure who team USA is playing here.

Looks like an after-thought. Looks like a "lesser" game.

I don't get that same feeling watching softball on a proper softball field.

Softball IS an afterthought now. We no longer have our own federation, we have the WBSC (world baseball softball confederation) All changes are made based on what’s best for baseball.

Including changing our age groups for juniors so they match baseball.
