So Cal
Wait,, so MMA is ok because women list their weight? Are you serious? Look, I get that women's sports have a hard time ahead of them and that most aren't as popular as men's. The world is changing though, some for the worse, some for the better. You say no one wants to watch women sports and you can't dare bring yourself to watch ANY sport with women in it. You haven't said a single thing good about fastpitch while being on this site. So let me ask you, WHY are you here? Personally, I honestly love watching skilled players play the game. I never would have started enjoying the sport if it weren't for my daughter playing it. Women playing sports, for real, is a pretty new thing. The more girls play sports, the more viewership will grow. If you don't want to watch, that's fine. However, saying stupid sh*t like no one wants to watch women play sports is pure stupidity and does nothing but make you look like a misogynist buffoon.

And sorry, I don't do beer. I go for the vodka.

What I have found is that I like a good battle. I don't care as much if the men are faster/stronger/better than their female counterparts. What matters is the intensity of the competition. FSU's WCWS win last year was all about intensity and determination. I also tend to love a dominator. One of my current favorites is US ski racer, Mikaela Shiffrin. I would rather watch her ski than the men. I love that the whole field is gunning for her, and even when she's behind or makes a mistake, she finds a way to pull out something extra and win. I enjoyed watching Tiger at his best for the same reason.

I said that "maybe" that's why people watched, I don't know for sure, I don't watch mma at all.

I like to watch my girl play softball, I appreciate the game once you reach the better 12u and 14u teams. We also went to Mary Nutter with her team the last few seasons and a few UCLA games. Also went and watched the PGF All American game cause we knew girls playing in it as well as a few of the CIF playoff games for the school she will go to last season.
I don't watch soccer and I won't even watch men's basketball, don't care for tennis or golf either no matter which gender is playing it. I do watch volleyball, men's and women's, and only watch the ladies when it's beach volleyball.

This subject however is tired and played out on all of the forums regardless of sport. In the USA, culturally, people don't watch women's team sports and the reasons are vast, including all of the reasons I have listed.

I'll take a Tito's while you're up. Ketel One or Rain if no Tito's.

Dilligaf, I somewhat get where you're coming from but also see another side. I'm like Eric in that I can enjoy a good battle. Even though my daughter is pretty damn good at baseball, I hate to say it, but I enjoy watching her play softball more. For years westerners, and most of the world, have held the belief that women aren't capable of playing sports. Now we know, that's pure and utter BS. Can they naturally do what men can? No. Does that mean we can't enjoy watching women play sports? Well, to each their own with that answer. I grew up training in Akido and traditional Jiu Jitsu. I don't care for watching boxing, but I really enjoy MMA. I enjoy watching the dominant women more than I do the men. Has ZERO to do with being attracted to them. Hell, Cyborg holds zero physical appeal, but damn can she beat down on a girl. My point being, in time, a lot of these sports will grow. So, your attitude often comes off as very demeaning. I'm not a liberal lefty that thinks men and women are the same. They're very different. If you can really enjoy watching your daughter play, maybe the two of you could also enjoy taking in an NPF game. If the marketing were there, who knows, it could work. Stop saying sh*t like no one wants to watch women play sports though, because you just admitted you do. You like watching your daughter. The more men enjoy watching their daughters play a sport, well, the more they might enjoy watching other women play a sport. This is coming from a former die hard baseball fan. My daughter can also whip my a$$ in every conceivable way on the field, and that's not a lie. She works harder than any boy or girl I've ever known. Damn do I love watching her play! I'd absolutely LOVE to watch her play past college. Sadly, that's really not a reality at this point. Sad when she's devoted so much time and hard work towards something.

I have 4 sons, between 21 and 24 years of age, so we generally just watch baseball, 1 of them still play. My wife and I have been raising my niece, her sisters daughter, since she was 5 years old and lost her parents. That's why I refer to her as my "girl" and not daughter or dd.
When the boys are home there isn't much estrogen in the house. My wife tried turning out niece in to a girly girl with the dance and cheer and gymnastics but the girl loves to play baseball and softball so we are learning to like it. It's difficult though after decades of baseball and football

"Dad" doesn't have to be biological. It's a shame her closest thing to a father figure is a misogynist perv.

Same for me with Serena Williams. Some days she is a poster child for bad sportsmanship but she is the greatest competitor of all time in her sport.

I have two separate thoughts on this thread/issue:

1) The commenters here that claim that only mens sports can be popular because they are superior to female sports athletically...well that's just pure B.S. If that was the case, the ONLY successful leagues would be the top-of-the-top professional leagues like MLB, NFL, NBA, or say European or World Cup level soccer, because everything else would be inferior athletically. Yet, supposedly inferior athletic play is hugely popular in many cases due to competition, tradition, community, etc. Numerous college sports, many minor league sports, and high school sports across the country are wildly popular at times....yet the athleticism is far inferior to the best pro leagues. Popularity is obviously much more complicated than just pure athletic ability.

2) I would love to follow a professional fastpitch team if one was in my area and if the game time atmosphere was fun. I've been to several lower level minor league baseball games that were really fun largely because of tailgating tradition (yes, free flowing beer involved) with gametime events in between innings, etc. I think a pro fastpitch team could be popular locally if going to games were a big event...where that local popularity could spread to other teams and fan enthusiasm would show on TV.

There is another issue I don't know how to properly address here but I'll do it anyhow. I think NPF needs to attract male fans if it's going to be successful. However, in the modern day environment, I don't think I'd be comfortable attending women's athletic events without being accompanied by another female out of fear of being labeled a pervert, creepy, peeper, etc. I always bring my daughter or wife when attending our local D1 college fastpitch games or other big club tournaments. I know occasions where unknown lone males were questioned as to their intentions at local HS aged games. As such, once my daughter's done playing HS fastpitch, I'm probably done attending even though I know the female coach very well. This probably won't be a popular comment....but it's what I feel.
