I'm curious to hear some thoughts and opinions on exit speeds...
How much emphasis are you putting on this?
I've measured a few of my players recently off a tee with my pocket radar.
I've got an 04 girl that is exceptionally small in stature. She's 4'10 and 85 lbs... I Know, its not a typo. She was able to reach an exit speed of 59mph!!! (has never came close to hitting a dinger) While others who can hit the occasional bomb are getting numbers more like low to mid 50's. My dd however is the largest girl on the team, hits #4, tons of power, dingers are the usual for her... Her exit speeds average 65mph?
Some contributing factors.... "hotness" of bat, bat speed, overall player strength/power...
Is there a formula that translates mph into approx ball distance?

I saw a HIT-TRAX video that looked like a video game. It could calculate the angles, bat speed, ball speed, and exit speed then show on a screen the balls flight path and distance... looked amazing. Price is way too high for home use...

Any thoughts on a formula?

Coach Lisle touches on it in this podcast- from memory they came up a ball hit at 26 degrees with an exit velocity of 68? Mph would be otf at S.C. and most other college parks.

You can easily measure angles with an iPhone and the measure app. I’m sure android has a similar app. I have marked all of my nets with approximate line drive launch angles and in my home cage I ran a red string across the top to mark what is “not a pop up” for a well struck ball. It was surprising to dd how steep she could hit a ball after years of having a goal of “hit the back of the cage” as a goal.

If you are interested in something at home to measure this you can get the Blast vision app. Which is basically a hittrax on your phone which is supposed to be fairly consistent from what I hear. I believe it reads higher than the high end machines but is consistently higher. I believe you need an IOS device though and it has to be a newer year phone also, maybe an Iphone 7 or newer not totally sure. They say it takes a minimum EV of 66 mph to clear a 200' fence hit at the right angle.

Edit: Decent review on the app here

It's all physics. A ball traveling at 58 miles per hourshould have no problem getting over the fence at the right angle.

Could be cool to play with not as a training tool per se but to add some fun/variety to hitting sessions...or it could be a pain in the #ss :)

Here's another not so basic question...
When a player hits a ball off a tee at 70mph, that ball was stationary. There was no recoil added from that ball being pitched...
So, take that identical contact that produced a 70mph exit speed, then add the speed of that ball being pitched at say 60mph?... Is it a safe assumption that that ball would have a much higher exit then?

Does that Blast video app require the bat knob attachment like the Zepp?

A good rule of thumb on that, from what I have read, is assume .2 feet further distance for every mph pitched. So 60X.2= 12' of gains. Which I believe the rule of thumb is 3' per every mph of EV. So about 4 mph of EV added by hitting a 60 mph pitch. The real magic is in bat speed. I will add that my DD hits on Hittrax very often and to be honest the EV off of the tee is always higher than what she does off of front toss in the neighborhood of 3 mph just an FYI.

I do not believe that you need the swing tracker to use the app.

I downloaded the Blast Motion app. Looks like it is set up as a camera side view for hitting from a tee.

Posted some numbers last year from our 12U team hitting off the tee. We were a really good team. Tops was 74, she is a very good athlete that hit a pile of doubles nothing within one hope of the fence. 7 kids hit one ball 64. All hit over 60. The kid that hit the ball the hardest all year and some bombs 64. It seemed that she hit the ball a lot harder than everyone else but it didn't read that way. I walked away thinking I'm not sure about all this.

74 off a tee? 90% of all men and college women can't hit that hard. That's a strong 12 year old. A 74mph softball should carry about 270ft

You can typically add 10%-15% of the pitched speed to exit speed depending on how the ball was hit
