Not Chicago here but it gets hotter than 90 here in northern Illinois. We get the worst of every kind of weather. Triple digit heat index in the summer, exposed skin freezes in 15 min type cold in the winter. Tornadoes, blizzards, floods, flash floods, drought, pestilence, forty years of darkness (every winter), human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria.

Couple weeks ago we had 90 degree highs within 24-36 hours of a hard freeze. (It’s really no big deal, that’s why I don’t remember the details.)

We also have a cool thing called the New Madrid Faultline in southern Illinois so at some point we will be able to claim earthquakes.

The last time the New Madrid Fault let go, the Mississippi River flowed backward, a huge lake was created and the church bells in Boston rang.

Here in Wisconsin the HS season is in the "Spring" Mid-March through Mid-May followed by the state tournament which if you make the finals is the Saturday before graduation Sunday 2nd week in June. We have played games in March with snow piles still near the field. This year on a Saturday we had volunteer parents come and shovel snow from the field or we wouldn't have played that week due to wet grounds. Another year we traveled to central WI leaving school at 6:15 for a 1.5 hour bus ride to play 3 games on a Saturday in early April. When we got off the bus I looked at my phone which read 34 degrees. Yes we started game 1 during which we had sleet off an on. When the sleet stopped the wind picked up. We played all 3 games and won 2 of 3 games. We practice outside as much as possible even on asphalt when the fields are wet. Not saying we play when it is brutal or dangerous, but when the season is so compact we need to play as much as we can early or you end up playing games almost every day later on. Regardless of extreme warm or bitter cold we ask the players to say something if they do not feel right in addition to observing them ourselves.

DD's 10u team just finished up last weekend. Temp at game start was 38. We were lucky little wind and it did warm up a bit as the game progressed.

Fall ball in Washington a few years ago. Yes its snow, Play Ball!!

No ball anywhere around me tonight. We are getting 7 inches of snow. This morning, the St. Louis news media came to my small town and declared it to be "in the cross hairs of this storm." Outside my window looks kind of like that picture without the players. LOL

Yikes, that looks miserable. My DD picked up once for a TN team and played there in the sleet. They finally called the tournament but she said it was the most miserable softball experience she'd ever had. We got rained out last weekend, and it's not looking good this weekend either. It's been raining for just about 2 weeks straight, and cold (for GA this time of year anyway). It's supposed to stop today, but no sun. I'm sure the fields are awful. We've only played two fall tournaments. Can't seem to get any more in :(
