This is our first year is TB and our team has snack bar duty to help raise money for the team. Is this normal?

We have someone volunteer, we do not need to use a team parent. Funds go to home organization, should mitigate the entry fee a little bit.

For baseball when we only had 1 field the parents used to volunteer, 1 for each team, until the health department shut them all down.

Sometimes if an organization is hosting a tournament I think they may get teams to get volunteers for things like that. I think for a lot of tournaments, the county that runs the park deals with (and profits from) the concessions, but I'm not positive.

My daughters travel team hosted a tournament last year they asked for parents to help with the concession stand. About 7 out of 12 sets of parents signed up and worked the 2 days in shifts of 4 hours ,, This year when we had our team meeting, the parents that worked the concession stand got $90.00 taken off there fees for this years season.

Our HS softball boosters made about $4k this year running the concession stand. TB teams have used a wide variety of fundraisers, snack bar seems fairly typical.

In rec ball our team was responsible for running the concession stand. We developed a schedule and asked all of the parents to participate. The stand had a window directly behind home plate, so the people working had a great view of the games (at least in between customers). But all the proceeds were used for field maintenance and other things.

In travel ball our team never had to do this, but I do know of examples... Again, typically people hosting tournaments as a fund raiser. We hosted a couple of tournaments with our travel team but we had a pretty sweet deal. We organized the event and kept the entrance fees. The only thing we had to pay for was the umpires. The field complex didn't charge us anything but operated the concessions. The money they made was theirs. Worked great for us because we didn't have to deal with it. Field duty was also provided by them. Ended up being a great fundraiser for our organization.

I would rather work Concessions for a team fundraiser than selling crap to friends and strangers. Our rec ball association pays HS kids to work concessions $15/hr. In the past we had asked each team to volunteer two shifts during the season and that was very difficult for these parents to do that. The parent base has deep pockets and would rather pay a fee than volunteer.

Not that I have deep pockets... But sometimes the fund raisers don't make much sense to me. I had a conversation with the high school girls basketball boosters president about this. We were asked to purchase fan gear. I'm ok with that, but the number of items they wanted us to sell was a bit extreme. So I asked how much of the proceeds goes to the team. I was told 20%. So if I bought a shirt for $20.00, $4.00 went to the team. So I asked if I could just pay $40.00 to cover 10 items instead of selling all 10. That way the team still got the same amount of income from the fund raiser, but I wasn't selling a bunch of things that people really didn't want... Of course, I was accused of being "that dad" and that I really didn't understand :) Not the first or last time unfortunately...
