We almost had an all-time great softball moment yesterday, missed it by a few inches. We're a 10U rec team and were playing the best team in the league, who have no business being in the rec division. One of their coaches told me they are also playing in the comp division and are undefeated there as well. They are mowing everyone down with a couple of stud pitchers. We're a decent hitting team, and we only hit one fair ball in the game.

We were short players so one of our girls got one of her friends to play, and she had literally never played softball before, so we gave her a crash course before the game. I knew what we were going to be facing, so I figured her best chance was to bunt. I spent about 5-10 minutes teaching her how to do it and having her practice.

She went up to bat - her first time ever playing and she's facing a pitcher throwing serious heat. She got right in there, squared around on the first pitch and missed. She tried it again on the next pitch, and missed again. She squared up the third time, the pitch was down at her knees. With pretty good form, she got a really nice bunt down the third base line, and had a great chance beat it out, but it rolled about 3 inches foul.

So close.
