When you ask about fees don't forget to ask about fundraisers. Some have volunteer ones, but others force you to sell X number of tickets. For some it's easy to sell them, but others you have to realize you are likely to have to just pay for them.
DD is 14U - her fees are $1800/year. It includes uniforms, bags, helmets, tourney fees, indoor practice facility for the winter and misc other??? It does not cover any pitching or hitting instruction/clinics. Those are expected to be handled individually. So we pay an extra $120/month for hitting (4 lessons at 45 min ea). It does not include any travel but the team usually only travels out of state 2-3 times/year. We live in CO so the Sparkler comes to us! Yay! The person who handles the finances provides a monthly spreadsheet so there is NO question where the $$ went.
DD's last team charged $2400. We were paying a fee to a big org (which was just plain silly because DD's old coach thought the name would make all the difference and the team was NOT a good representation of the org - hence one of the reasons we moved on...but I digress) and then the coach had some "interesting" accounting habits. Somehow his daughter always had a new bat, new cleats, new gloves, etc...while we were being nickeled and dimed for bags, helmets, sweatshirts, additional uniform pieces and any other thing that would come up...not sure where all the $$ went (yet another reason we left).
ETA: DD's team does do voluntary fundraisers...we do use our Kroger/King Soopers cards which make a small dent in our fees, but generally don't do the football pools, or other fundraisers.
It can very so much by team or location. DD played on a local 10U-12U team that was $100 and the rest was paid for by fundraising. That team is still going and moving to 16U, and I believe it's still only $100. They do a gun raffle, silent auction, and glo bingo that make a pretty good chunk of money for the team. That covered occasional indoor winter practice, 2 belts, 2 jerseys, helmets, bags, and tourney fees. All dad coaches on this team. The org DD plays for now I believe is $750 from 10U all the way thru 18U. Any sponsorship money we bring in goes directly to the players fee, which is nice. Each player does fundraising to bring in additional money for there team that includes raffle tickets & selling pizzas. This fee includes indoor winter practices, belts, 2 jerseys, bags, helmets & tourney fees as well. This org has a mix of parent coaches & volunteer coaches.
175 a month from September til July so $1,925
That covered all practices, friendlies and tournaments entry fees. Indoor hitting with the team one night a week and 3 1 hour classes (one with the team 2 on your own) at EM Speed for speed and conditioning classes.
Then 350 for player package which included 2 pairs of Demarini pants, 2 Demarini game jerseys, 2 pair of Demarini socks, Demarini helmet, embroidered Demarini bag, 1 pair of Demarini gloves, practice drifit, workout drifit, workout shorts, hoodie and a visor. It also included discounts on Wilson gloves, Demarini and Louisville Slugger bats, Evo Shield
The team also did fundraisers to pay for Colorado Sparkler and a couple showcases earlier in the season.
The girls also got jackets, t shirts, drifit jerseys.... throughout the year that they wore on flights, for pregames or to Mary Nutter or UCLA games
I assume for $175 per month, your dd does not have parent or rec level coaches, correct? What are speed and conditioning classes? Are these like 1 on 1 personal training sessions? How much of a discount do you get in bats and gloves? Do you know where your team gets their uniform package? What level are you?
Around here in the 12U and under age group anyway (the only ones I have experience with), a team without a parent as the coach is the exception no matter what the fees are. The big 3 names here in the 06 year all have parents as head coaches. In the next state over is one of the best 06 teams in the country and I'm almost positive the coach has a daughter on the team.
16u. $950 for year, no fund raising. 3 plus uniforms, helmet, bag. The bigger tournaments we go to are Scenic city summer, Colorado power pools, USA nationals, fall Scenic City, St. Louis 1. In the fall teams are consolidated due to volleyball and its “pay as you go”, I think it’s usually $40 for the weekend.
I believe it is easily the best bang for the buck in our Midwest state.
And most of the time, stay away from manufacturer "sponsorships"...haha. 99.9% aren't sponsorships. Like 350 for what they got is very high, but people get to say
that are "sponsored" by a manufacturer...you are paying for it, no sponsoring at all. Only person making out on those deals are the org and manufacturer, not the parents/kids. The org
will get some benefits like balls/buckets/ a net or something. The parents are the ones footing the bills and have to pay for everything...and the discount on
bats/gloves aren't anything more than what you can find out there.
