After college she coached a travel team for three years. They were 14u this year. She also has helped me with lessons since about her sophomore year in high school. She stepped down from coaching just now after this last tournament. One because it was costing her too much money, only being out of college three years and being a nurse, the other is the time commitment.
She posted this on facebook. Good read for anybody who loves this sport...

Dear Softball,

I want to say thank you. Thank you for allowing me to be yours for over 20 years. Thank you for shaping me, teaching me, and molding me, into a fearless leader with your guidance and direction. Some will say it’s “just softball.” It’s never JUST been anything, it’s been everything. It’s been a journey of devastation, triumph, heart, and defeat. You have shown me, that we can never truly rise in success without first failing, again and again.

Thank you for helping me realize my true potential is something far greater than me. Thank you for allowing my Faith to blossom friendships, and love. Love that far exceeds what my 5 yr old self could ever even begin to imagine. Love so deeply rooted into a sport, that has offered me so much more than I’ll ever be able to give it. A love that I want to continue to share, into the lives of others, and a love that knows no end. I am reminded by you, that we are all perfectly imperfect, and that in our imperfections we have growth. We have the capacity to continue to trek forward, when all hope has seemed lost.

Thank you for the early mornings, and the late nights. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for friends I have kept so near to my heart. And lastly, thank you for my understanding that it’s never JUST softball. I hope someday, people will realize what an impact you have made. My life will be forever changed by you, and all your perfectly timed life lessons. I can only hope, I can be half as wise as you.

Love Always: Casey Lynn

People will often ask why there are no young women coaches. Her letter really outlines some of the reasons. Many of them are ready to concentrate on their own lives. Things like work, getting married, buying homes and dare I say the word "Mom" pops up in there too. There is a ton of responsibility that gets dropped in their laps.

You never hear people asking why there are no younger men stepping up to coach a softball team. The bulk of the coaches are dads. They are older. The mom usually is the one who takes care things that allows the dad to coach a team.

I know when I coach a team it usually ends up costing me around $5,000 for a year. Not coaching expenses, missed work due to softball. The last season I coached I was the only one on the team who did not miss a team function all season long.

So true. Takes time and money. She had no life outside of softball. Friends were doing things 25 year old's were doing with out her. Too much money out of her pocket being a new home owner. The girls really loved her, the parents did too because of such a role model for there own children to follow.
Not sure how that kid came from me?
