Parents better be shopping around for the best fit. If your current team is holding tryouts go to a lot of other tryouts.
When the coaches hold tryouts they are looking for someone to take your DDs spot. Plain and simple.

No, I know. I was saying that cutting players by email shouldn't even be done at the professional level, much less with girls in high school or younger. Seems unnecessarily cruel and cowardly to me.
That's not entirely true. We had 3 returners because all the others aged out... so the plain and simple isn't that cut and dry as you say. I would suggest talking to the coaches and find out what their thoughts are.
Unless the coach moves up an age group as the girls age out there is always going to be a need for new players thus a need for tryouts. DDs former team is having tryouts because kids graduated and are going on to play in college. The coaches do not have daughters on the team so the team stays 18u year to year. There is always going to be a need for new players

Last two posts are proof teams with guaranteed spots exist. That maybe good for certain players and parents may want to stay with that program. New players/parents may want to know you have this agreement with other players before handing you thousands of dollars.

Every team DD has played on has stated very clearly all "all spots are open". Thats the way it should be IMO.
If you had 3 good returners and had 16 absolute ringers show up for tryouts what would you do?

Real cold. And one more reason for people to hate that team. Don't care how good they look on the field, that is an arsehole thing to do.(responding to: I did mean Bill Conroy's Beverly Bandits which his girls aren't professional (not the professional Chicago Bandits) to make clear. I agree with you that you should have the courtesy to say goodby face to face. But they are one of the top teams in the country and they run it like a business. You cant argue against their success.)

Well I have been with this HC for 6 years and I have never seen him release a kid that played for us over a new player. I can confidently say he would take those players that fill the positions we are looking for, and pass on the rest, I have seen him do it (sometimes it bites us in the behind) but overall he is loyal to the players that want to come back.
