Well ran into a great Tryout ad... I'll post the Ad (but leave out team name) then give a little history of this team/program this last summer (previous year's were similar.

The NW ___ will be holding tryouts for it's 16A and 18G tryouts this coming Tuesday from 6-8:30. These teams will practice together and will attend the same tournaments, except for the large travel showcases where select 16A players will travel with the 18G team. These are exposure teams and will be provided with support in the process and years of proven success in placing players at the next level up to and including D1. We will not go to exposures just because of the name but to the ones that have, from experience, provided results.

***OK, well the last few years they have never had an 18 team, much less an 18G team. The 16 team last year went 3-17 in USA Tournaments (and this has been pretty typical of this coaches teams the last few years). How can parents not call out this BS? It doesn't effect me in any way as this team is in another State so it's not an ex-parent just blowing smoke.

I really don't understand how a program will give this information knowing full well they won't/can't field an 18 team, and the 16 team is subpar to say the least.

What are some of your greatest tryout ads in your area?

Looking for a few players to finish our roster. Great core group of girls and parents. Just needing pitchers, catchers, corners, middle infielders and outfielders.

I see it all the time...teams talking about how much they're going to travel and play in showcases. Some of these are as young as 12U, and some can barely compete at a low-level local tournament. Why on earth would anyone sign up for that kind of cost and effort for no benefit?

Posted this one before, but it deserves a re-airing. This is full text of the tryout and the complete lack of any details and grammar is just outstanding... I have NO idea what age group this team is even in.
Especially bad since this is posted on a rapidly moving local board where all the tryouts for every team are posted which gets 30-40 posts per day so you HAVE to stand out just to be read by someone. Almost everyone gets at least the subject right (Team name, age group, tryout date)...but this one...

Subject: Travel Team Players Needed

We are looking to add to our roster for the balance of this year and next season. We are currently looking experienced travel players!! We are in need of an additional pitcher, outfielder and infielder.
If interested in finding a new travel home, please give Coach X @ X.

My second favorite was one where at least 1/2 of the tryout post was dedicated to trashing their previous team and coach by name and what he did that forced them to make a new team. Cause we all need THAT crazy in our lives.

Oh and I just remembered one... it was similar to the one above where the tryout was all about the previous team... except it was a posted response to what appeared to be a fairly normal tryout post over on HeyBucket by a previous parent on the team... and it descending into about 30-40 nasty back and forward abusive and name calling postings by the original poster/coach and 3-4 disgruntled parents. Total airing of dirty laundry online. It was awesome. I need to find that one again.

This is a fun time of year reading the so-called accomplishments of programs, coaches and players. Most are deceiving at best and many are outright lies.

My favorite tryout ad ever went something like "Unhappy with your current team? Is your daughter not getting enough playing time? Come tryout for us!" That's what everybody wants. An entire team of disgruntled parents.

Translation - Head Coaches kid is a stove glove catcher, AC had as daughter who he thinks is a pitcher.

I saw this add. Didn't have the background as you when I read, but it just lays on the BS too much. If you have to gloss over your situation so it sound better then there are issues. I would rather see an add with just the facts. There rest means nothing and is a major turn off.

"Now that open work outs are closed, we are looking for only one more athlete. Looking for one unselfish pitcher that wants to be and understands what it means to be part of a rotation and team. "

Translation: "Open work outs" were really tryouts. We don't care that the rest of the competitive softball in this area will be doing real try outs in two weeks. We need an unselfish pitcher to only pitch when Daddy's little girl is tired or when the game is not on the line. We have had issues keeping a 3rd pitcher on our team, because they only get 20% of the circle time. We deemed them unselfish after they left for greener pastures.
