Ok other than the obvious, (they do showcases), is their any upside or downside to playing on a showcase team? My daughter is just moving up to 18u and is their any other thing I should know about a showcase team and how they are run?

Teams can be called whatever, so it is actions rather than names that dictate what kind of team it is. You need to find out exactly what they did last season and what they are going to do this season to know if it is a fit.

Calling a team 'showcase' team is just a way to try and attract players or at least interest someone (same as GOLD, Elite, Platinum, National, etc, etc.) - a standard marketing and branding exercise.

There are a thousand like terms "non-parent coaches", "ex-college players coaching", "solid core of players", "sponsored", "National Brand Team", "great resources", "playing competitive schedule", "coached state champions", "put 40 players into college", "we do things differently", "College like training program", "No Daddy Ball", "We get players recruited"... etc, etc....

They are all meaningless as words. It is only what is on the field that matters. But you say all these things because branding and advertising works.

What ever you call it need to find out what coaches butts are going to be in the seats. Don't leave getting your DD recruited up to her coaches/organization. Have your DD send out emails even for 'what ever else'......

Only a fool leaves it up to the coaches and the organization to get their DD recruited. You would not leave it up to a 3rd party to find you a quality job. Success in the recruiting process is no different.

I guess I should have rephrased that question...I was hoping to gain some feedback from someone who’s kid played on a true showcase team. You know, what was the experience like. That’s all.

What do you consider a true showcase team? DD played for a team for the past 3 years that played in showcases 75% of the time.

PERSONALLY, to me a "showcase" team means you're spending your daughter's tuition in hopes to replace it with the same amount of scholarship money. :)

Again I think you may be getting hung up on "showcase" but lets say you mean a team that can at least compete with top-level national competition and attends those kinds of tournaments. For my DD that was worth it not just from a recruiting perspective but even more important gave her a sense she could compete and thrive at the college level her freshman year. I know the first step is getting recruited but sometimes you can lose sight of the fact that your DD wherever she plays will want to get the kind of competition before she arrives to play and thrive. Playing top competition will help in that area as well.

By playing on that kind of team as well my DD found she received very good responses to her intro emails and likely got coaches to watch her much more easily. I am sure more than one could have thought, she might stink it up but some of her teammates can surely play. :) And this may be a blinding statement of the obvious but you can play on a "showcase" team that plays "showcase" tournaments and never see a college coach. Hope that helps.

Andy
