Does anyone really believe that? It’s about the egos of parents, coaches, and organizations. At least it’s that way where we live!

Blackballed from our hometown fields because we dared to do better for the kids!

That’s my rant for today!

that's the beauty of softball, eh. you figure out what you want to accomplish and then you figure out the best way to do it. your game will tell you rather quickly if you are choosing the correct methods.

It seems to me to be maybe 50/50. There are a lot of egos in coaching. And a lot of parents who get too personally wrapped up in whether their child is "successful." When you find a coach who really is about the kids it's pretty great though.

I have been pretty lucky that the parents on my select team are pretty chill. This is a first year team and we are getting ran off the field most games, no complaining at all.
Myself, I want the best for my DD. If she wants to continue with softball, I will give her everything I got to make her a better player and teammate. If she stops loving it.... then lets move on to something else. As long as she is happy I will push her to be her best...in whatever that is.

DD’s team was the team running everyone off the field while her team played for organization X. The parents wanted to play better competition so the kids could develop. Organization X told us to go pound sand. We took DD’s team, now banned from playing on local recreation fields, and started playing better teams. A neighboring county gave us a field to play on and our local high school gave us a field to play on. Our team still played a few of the local tournaments the last two years. This year we didn’t play those tournaments but signed up for the last tournament of the year which is in our town. We received a call last night that we have been uninvited to the tournament because we are an “A” team. There are still 3 other “A” teams that will play in this tournament. Organization X has a history of intimidating parents of players that have left by telling them they will never play high school ball in town if they leave the organization. They lost their grip on the high school the same year our parents left. New high school coach has a DD that was one of the blackballed players.

Who is the sanctioning body for this Tournament? You can probably get your local association involved if you really want to do it. Nothing better than to whoop those idiots on the field. I too kinda ran into the same situation... although not as extreme as what you are experiencing. Just basically extreme tension between the organization we left (local teams only).

Well that stinks. Anyway this sounds more like a couple of butt hurt egos from the folks in the local org than an "It's all about the kids" rant.

Sorry to hear NVFishing. Unfortunately, in my experience, the folks who truly are in it for what is best for all the kids, are viewed as a threat to the playing time or ability to make of their daughters to make teams and their parents sometimes attempt to force those folks out.

When organizations say its about the kids and you try to make the organization better but then you realize it’s about the status quo$.

The kids that have left from here made the right decision. Wish we did it earlier but didn’t have a field to go to. This feeder program for the high school was failing its softball players. The high school is the largest in our region and was a bottom dweller because of the league/organization mentality. This last year we made playoffs for the first time in at least 6 years. (Coaching change) Players that left our group play for big time PGF teams in Cali. These kids that were told they’d never play for our high school. Have to love small town politics!
