Very different experience for us this year. Dd was actually asked by a few different orgs to join their programs - no tryouts necessary. Some coaches apparently saw her play during school ball or against their teams. One she guest-played for. It was nice to not have to go through the craziness this year.

Exactly! School ball did help!
DD is staying put, we love it where we are, but she is moving up to 18s.

DD switching teams this year and was asked to play with several org. She decided to tryout with a team that was interested but the HC had never seen her. This was her first tryout ever and she was lights out. They offered her the opportunity to play and the fit seems perfect. All rainbows for now. LOL

DD's 10U team has an organizational tryout on Sunday. They aren't cutting any of the current players but are only carrying 9 right now since we just had a catcher leave to look for a younger team (she was one of the 4 kids, including my DD, playing up on the team). They want the current players to attend as well, which is fine, but I hope they let the kids trying out get sufficient reps (which will mean it will be a wasted practice for DD ).

So happy those days are behind us. Travel ball has been great for DD, but this time of year has always been stressful. Whether it has been tryouts for DD, or tryouts for the team I had been coaching. In any event, I wish you all the best of luck throughout this process.

Historically, tryouts in my area have typically been done in early August. I have noticed more and more teams starting theirs in late July, with several of the key organizations already having a few dates completed. I have also noticed an increased amount of org vs. org animosity on social media. They are sly enough to not name other orgs in their posts, but it isn't hard to figure out who each one is talking about. Honestly, that is a huge turnoff for me...

Ha - our tryouts started the first week of July. It was absolutely ridiculous! DD stayed with her current team but I couldn’t believe all the big name orgs held their tryouts before July 4th. How awkward - kids committing to teams and still having to finish out the season (nationals, WFC, etc) with their old team. It is crazy here because HS ball is a fall sport so we don’t have the luxury of having tryouts into August (first games are 8/9!!) but still - I think tryouts should have waited until maybe this week?

DD tried out for 10 teams, got a couple of offers. She guest played for one and that is the team she's going with.

The crazy thing is, there are a number of teams in our area that are already folding because they didn't get enough players to show up for their early July tryouts. The teams that waited until the first week of August are going to be able to scoop up some quality players because their previous teams just disappeared. Sometimes the early bird gets the worm, and sometimes the tortoise wins the race..
