Just got back from playing in the Canada Cup. I must say this was a fun Tournament. There wasn't many Teams from the US, and only from the West Coast, but getting the opportunity to see teams from New Zealand, Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, and Team Canada (although I didn't get to see Danielle Lawrie pitch). There were 3 different age groups in our week, the 16's, the 18's, and women's divisions.

One thing I thought was really cool is they get dedicated bat girls for each team. Our's was a 12 year old named Justina. She warmed up every game with our team, and was our loudest cheerleader. Such a great kid, and her family watched every game we had. She also hung out with us when we did sightseeing stuff. It did take a couple of games for our players to get used to having an actual bat girl though.

The pool/bracket games were a little strange to us (just because we had never played in an international tournament before). They broke the Bracket games into 2 different divisions. The top performers in pool play moved to the upper double elimination bracket, and the others moved into a single elimination consoulation bracket. We made the upper bracket, and ended up 3-4 overall. We had several injuries, both our catchers, and one of our pitchers were injured. The Trainers and Sports Medicine Doctors were top notch and well worth the visits to the Medical Tent.

The teams were very good. We played a team from the Vancouver area, Delta Heat that had a 15 yo pitcher throwing a constant 63-64 mph. I wish I would have gotten her name because I am sure she will be well known in the future.

If your teams get a chance to play in this I would recommend it.

Thanks for this info. DD's new team she is joining next year just put out their travel tournament schedule for next year and the Canada Cup is listed for July 2019. Sounds like a lot of fun. Where is the tournament held in Canada?

They play at two different locations, both are in the Surrey area of BC. Softball City is the main complex and has great fields.... and the center building serves alcohol so the parents can sit on the deck with a drink and watch the games.... in some of our games all of our parents were up there :) hahahaha.

A word of advise, start saving for it now, the hotels are going to be very expensive (and it's stay to play). Most pools had 6 teams, ours only had 5 and we played 1 game a day Mon-Thurs, then started Brackets on Friday.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of down time with one game a day. I didn't realize it was such a long tournament. Thanks again for all the info.
