When is okay to leave in the middle of a tournament because of rain?

We had this happen both ways on us

Once we did the wait, it was Sunday, half wanted to leave since we had a 7 hour drive. We went to the field we were supposed to and the TD screwed up times
and actually told us a later time than what was scheduled...so we waited 4 hours to say that we forfeited and out of tourney. We were pissed, but the dude didn't
care because we got our guaranteed amount of games in. Pissed because we could have been over half way home. The guys attitude made me regret waiting.

Second, we just said the hell with it, field was under water and they didn't cancel yet. Map had it raining all day and we had another good drive home. We all just
told the TD we were done. He was pissed but tough sh!t. He was talking about doing Monday...seriously...we all had work the next day because tourney was to be done
Sunday. Sure he wasn't pleased, but it is what it is.

For me, have to do whats best for the team and people involved...not whats best for the TD

So I have a novel idea - why don't TDs try to put together events that run on time, are well-officiated, and are fun for everyone? And when bad weather happens, you do your best to keep everyone in the loop and make your scheduling decisions with the big picture in mind. The teams that traveled the farthest should be given the early games when there are delays. You can seed the tournament with that in mind.

We all know the money-grab tournaments when we see them. Gate fees. Inflated concession prices. Stay to play. Cooler restrictions. If you're doing all of that stuff, your tournament better be frickin awesome.

And it seems to me telling any team that if they leave they're banned is such a horribly bad move. The TD might be frustrated, but why shoot yourself in the foot like that? The softball grapevine reminds me of high school. Everyone knows everything. Seems like banning a team for a reason like this might just sound the death knell to your tournament.

Really who cares about the TD's tantrum.. it's about the experience for the girls. If he threatened our team that we could never register again for that tournament, then we would just go to another. Lot's of options out there!

I agree with this completely. My only point is that sometimes the decisions made by one person/team can impact other people/teams without that being the intention.

Oh, I agree...in a tourney, teams go hand in hand and everything trickles down. One team leaving will effect the bracket and other teams. But a lot of times, TD's get
more caught up with what its going to cost them to cancel then whats best.
