Venting on a message board on a relevant thread and complaining to a tourney director are very different things.

True

On to your earlier question, on a foul ball with infield fly in effect you should yell, "Infield fly if fair." Maybe he was trying to do that and jumbled it up. Usually that only is yelled if the ball is borderline fair or foul. It doesn't sound like that in this case.

I have to say through 3 tournaments we've been pretty lucky with good umpiring this season. That's not to say I've agreed with every call or that I liked every strike zone but we've had umps that have been fair, consistent, approchable, respectful, and willing to say "hey sorry I missed that one coach" on a couple of occasions either to me my assistants or players.

But if you are going to blow up at an umpire doing it here on DFP instead of at the field is really the way to do it.

Yep. Sometimes it helps to get it out, but you definitely don't want to do it at the ballpark. I try hard to behave. lol

There's an inherent nature/instinct or built in bias for travel ball parents to believe there DD or her team gets an inordinate amount of bad calls by the umps, when in reality that calls aren't that bad and they mostly even out. With that said, I cant believe all the bad calls my DD has had over the years.

It is because you watch they game with your heart. The umpires watch the game with their eyes.

It’s amazing how much better the umpiring is when you don’t have a kid on the field.

Hopefully the umpires you have had the first three tournaments are at your tournament on the 14th!

I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter where or which softball affiliation your tournament is in, bad umpires are everywhere. Even watched bad calls in the WCWS. Just hope the calls are going your way. If they aren't it's even more difficult.
