13 y/o DD is getting separate lessons with a catching coach and a batting coach each week this summer. I had assumed this was better than a four day softball camp at a local college. Is there any reason I should reconsider?

From a development standpoint she’s probably better off with her normal instruction.

Reasons I’d lean more towards the camp might be:
-To see if your DD might be interested in attending there.
-To measure herself against other kids looking to play at that level.
-To experience different coaching techniques.

We don't do skills camps anymore at 13 (14 this month). We only do "exposure camps", like prospect camps and invitational camps. For us, camps are about exposure and getting in front of coaches she might be interested in playing for.

Private lessons are where she is going to improve and get better at her camp. They are money well spent (if with the right instructor!).
Camps are not for learning new skills at this age, but maybe some new drills and getting seen by coaches.

She is not interested in attending that school. And I would not want her to attend the school.

-To measure herself against other kids looking to play at that level.

With all the school ball and local travel teams she plays against, I thought she would generally have a measure of herself against others. Does a camp give a different perspective than tournaments do?

-To experience different coaching techniques.

That makes sense.

From everything I've seen, and heard from those who attend, most college camps = tryout.

Occasionally, a local school will do a "skills" camp for younger players that is purely instructional, but if it's for HS age kids, it's a tryout.

DD played in a showcase tournament, just because her team entered, and filled out the online player profile. The camp invites from regional schools started rolling in. I doubt any of these coaches actually saw her play, but they probably noted her GPA and said "let's take a look".

This is a great question! Thank you everybody who has put in on this and answered a bunch of my questions regarding it as well!

Unless a kid is of the age where exposure starts to become important, camps are a waste of time imo. The kids probably have fun, so if you have disposable income, then knock yourself out.

Funny personal story about camps. I went to one in my entire youth, I think I was maybe 13. I was so excited because it was going to be inside McCoy Stadium, where the PawSox play. I get there the first day, within an hour of being there I feel like garbage nauseous, etc. Turns out I had the flu, missed the rest of the week long camp. My old man must have been pleased, not sure if he got some partial refund or not....
