I’m specifically referring to the phrase being used “questionable call.” That phrase seems to subtly throw the umpire under the bus here.

That seems more like an explanation of why they were fighting, not justifying it or anything. And honestly, some umpires really are terrible and I've seen people get pretty hot under the collar after a few "questionable calls." I wouldn't be surprised if that really is what set everyone off. Again, not saying that makes it ok OR the umpire's fault, though.

That’s no explanation at all.

To say it was a “controversial call” or a “disputed call” is one thing. To say it’s “questionable” seems to direct it towards the umpire.

We're in the instant replay era. All close plays have become 'questionable calls'.

It’s a game. Let’s keep it in perspective.

Two entire groups of young ladies are now affected by the actions of a few of their parents, and that’s the real story here. Such a shame.

Those both sound like blaming the umpire as well.

I would expect for this to become more common. I am amazed at what I see at games. Earlier this year I saw an AC yell pitches out to his dd when she hit. He left the dugout and went behind the backstop. When we went to the plate umpire and told him that the AC was in the stands calling pitches or at least locations, nothing was done. So, me being me, I confronted him when he came back to the dugout. It got a little ugly. That young lady will be playing in college next year. I can't wait to see what happens when dad does it on the road.

There have been several players our HC has not taken 100% because of their parents. It's not worth the drama, even if the kid's a stud. Though usually they aren't.

Regarding the video, sometimes clowns run into other clowns and fireworks happen. Stand back.

About the parents. I had the chance to talk to a college recruiter/scout at a game that I was attendind in a different capacity other than a crazy parent. The recruiter did know I have a DD who plays travel ball. I asked him straight out if kids are overlooked because of their parents. He replied it was. I asked how they knew, and he said through scouts/recruiters like him watching....lol Aside, we had similar backgrounds (prior to softball) and really hit it off and he's asked to help recruit my daughter, so maybe I'm not as crazy as I think?

Oh, and my last point was. Current coach of DD is facing this exact dilemma. Kid is pretty good and with her on the team we could really do some damage. I'm thinking major damage to other teams and tournaments. But the dad has a well earned reputation. I'll be curious as to what transpires.

Even if your coach doesn't take this particular kid at tryouts, you may end up ok. It seems to me that "pretty good players" attached to parents with "well earned reputations" are some of the most likely to become available as a mid-season pickup. In fact, that may be the best way to have them. Everything runs smoothly for a few months while the grass is still greener on your team. Then the season is over. :D
