Eh I look at the GPA’s and always wonder what the scale is. At the public school in my district a 3.8 would not be so great since it could potentially be out of a 5.25 if they take honors classes. So many kids at the high school have that GPA.

Most colleges will run the grades through a gpa translator and bring it back to a 4 point scale. In fact better academic universities will un-weight the GPA and an A in and AP course is only worth 4 points, not 5, a B only worth 3 and not 4 and so on... But the kid will get credit for having an academically rigorous schedule.

So for instance when your dd applies to University of Michigan that GPA that is above a 4 due to AP or honors points, it will be 4 or less when they re do it.

Oh I’m well aware of that. It’s just that all these kids that put a 3.8 on their profile probably don’t base it off of the 4.0 scale.

Yes! I get so frustrated when I hear parents on our 14u team talking about kids that commited to a mid major D1 and putting them down for their choices! I hear "They are good enough to go SEC/ACC, so why settle for XYZ college?" Because every kid is different, has different career goals, wants to actually PLAY in college vs. worrying about being on TV enough or bragging that they are going to the big SEC school. My DD's top three schools are one Sunbelt mid-major D1, one SEC school, and one ACC school. They all have a program that she thinks she wants to major in and one really likes to recruit from her organization. We have been pushed to go out to California and Oklahoma for the past two years, but our HC/DH is putting it off until at least second year 14u.

It seems somewhat hypocritical to me that you complain about others bashing school choices but then you go on to bash their school choices or their reasons for going to a particular school. I know many players at really good D1 schools who don't see the field much if at all. While some are disappointed, most are not disappointed about their college choice and it is not about "bragging" about where they go to school or being on TV. They went to the school they wanted to go to and got the opportunity to be on the softball team at that school. They are good teammates and students who are doing what they want to do.
