First post, first thread, love all the great discussions here.

I was curious what people's thoughts are on 10u rec league players of eligible age dropping down to play 8u All Stars. Some teams around us do it, and those players absolutely rake against a pitching machine (Babe Ruth) after a season of live pitching. Of course, some of these girls play travel also.

In our district tournament, they have only failed to score 20 runs in one game.

I would honestly be scare to let my daughter hit off a machine against girls. Not something I would want to do. Or be in support of.

Playing up in rec and playing age appropriate in all-stars is perfectly fine, especially if she can't make all-stars in the playing up age. I see it here a fair amount.

That may be fair to the girl, but is it fair to the competition that is playing 8u rec girls in 8u All Stars only?

Well, kind of. They play 10u rec AND TB but then drop down to 8u for All Stars.

If they are playing 10U TB, then no they should not be dropping down to 8U All-stars.
I was thinking more of the situation that 8U house ball would be terribly boring to the girl and they are playing 10U Rec to get better competition but that when 8U all-stars rolled around they might be one of the better 8U players but they still belonged in 8U.
If they are already playing 10U TB, then no way they should also be doing 8U.

That's kind of my thought.

The odd thing to me is that this rec league's 10u team is no great shakes and could probably use some of these girls, even if they are young. I believe they have already been eliminated from 10u districts in double elimination.

We have it in our rec league. We have 3 teams of 8U (ages 5-8) and 2 teams of 10U, 58 girls between the 5 teams. 5 of the girls that played at 10U in rec ball are 8U eligible. One of them is playing with our 8U all star team for a series of 4 tournaments. We're a small community and the only way we might even win a game is to do it this way. We're were hoping for a couple more to come down. We are no threat to win a tournament with or without them quite honestly.
