Some of these rules still confuse me...and since both sides were freaking out after the call I still have no idea what should have happened...I have no dog in this fight...was watching the game before ours...

2 outs.
Runners on 2nd and 3rd.
Count is 2-2.
Pitch thrown.
Ball is popped up to right field and caught.
Illegal pitch is declared. (Still not sure what she did - no one was...but ok...)
Batter is given first, runner on 3rd is awarded home and runner at 2nd is awarded 3rd.

Correct? Again - no dog in this fight...I'm just confused...

Ok - so runners were on 2nd and 3rd - so 3rd advancing to home and 2nd advancing to 3rd was correct? But the batter should not have been awarded 1st. Correct?

Which rule set? I know the NCAA changed the rule this year to just a ball on the batter - no base runners advance. Therefore, the offense gets a choice of the result of the play or a ball on the batter.

Therefore, in your example it would have been a 3-2 count on the batter with runners still at 2nd and 3rd.

Yes, I misread the post. Runners advance, ball to the batter.

Not sure of the rule set...14U ASA tourney...

This ump was a trip. He was very much "I'm in control" and "I will not be argued with or questioned". He threw the coach out from the team in the field when the coach questioned the call. The coach was not yelling/screaming or acting crazy. Very much just asking for clarification as to why the runners advanced and why the pitch was ruled illegal. He was not asked to sit down, just immediately thrown out. First game of the day so unless they had history on a different day I thought that was a little over the top.

Speaking USA, the runners are awarded one base on the IP. The batter is awarded a ball. Under no rule is the batter awarded 1B on an IP.

If it was a USA (nee ASA) tournament, I'm pretty confident they used their own rules

Were you close enough to hear the entire conversation? You may be surprised how many coaches/players feel if they don't say it loud enough, the umpire will ignore it. However, if it was as calm as you are insinuating, that does sound like a quick trigger.

I was sitting pretty close but I certainly couldn't hear everything...so yeah - there is always the chance that the coach mouthed off.
