Back on the dirt...
NCAA WCWS playoffs and IP

Watching Northwestern and Cal and they are calling the NW pitcher for losing contact w the plate/replanting. Wonder if that will carryover into the other games? She was called twice in the 7th that I have seen. One that kept a batting at the plate on a popfly.

The announcers said there was a total of 12 IP calls that game - I didn't get to watch the whole game so I don't know if it was against that same pitcher or not. The girl announcer did not seem in favor of the one foot in contact with the ground rule and kept repeating that International and Professional players could hop and she thought the rule for NCAA would changed in 2019....

Just watched Barnhill blatantly leap out about 3', replant and throw. No call on it yet... but we are in Gainsville so we know how that is going to go.

I always thought Barnhill was being criticized for leaping. But after watching, you're right, she does a full replant of the pivot foot. That's messed up.

Of course they can leap. It is part of the dummying down of the game. I doubt any of these pitchers could exist under the original rules of the game

No.18 Morgan Newport and No.33 Kenna Wilkey so far have been called for 42 Illegal pitches. 20 against California's game, and they still have one more game to play. Those two are definitely leaping. And they should be called for it. The announcers doing the game was finding it humorous that so many IP were being called. Just like someone just commented already why not Barnhill.

The analyst, Megan Willis, kept referring to international rules of leaping and replanting. Then she made a comment that just P***ED me off. She said bring the international rules into the college game. Are you serious? Comparing International players to College is so unfair. Reason I feel I don't need to go into.

The reason for moving back the pitching distance was to give some advantage back to the batter. But just like everything in life, someone found a way to cross the line in pitching. And now Leaping has gotten out of hand and it is going to be difficult to RE-Enforce the rules. But it can be done.

Megan also said the NCAA will need to look at that rule in the off season. NO! The NCAA needs to tell the schools to start having their pitchers pitch legal.

Barnhill can and does once she is called. However, her speed decrases 4-5mph when she keeps the drive foot dragging. She can't get as much hip motion if she doesn't go airborne.

An injustice is being done to all teams if some umpires enforce the rules and others don't. The reason pitchers can get away with it is that they have been allowed to. Why would coaches demand changes if they know that their pitcher can get away with being illegal. If the rule is the problem, then change it. It hurts the game to have so many people throughout the country know that certain players and programs can break the rules while others are held to playing by the rules.

The other injustice is that umpiring crew will not get a Super Regional assignment because they have called the IP as they should while the crews doing the Florida regional will (and will likely get the Florida Super Regional since they live locally to the area)
