Venting ahead...

Let me preface this by saying that this is partially my fault as I was official book and should have noticed the wrong girl up to bat and in the future I’ll know to not actually trust teams...

This past weekend, one out in the inning. Girl comes up and gets a called strike call and then hits a foul ball. Count is 0-2. Next pitched was a great pitch and was another called strike. Our team is cheering, the scoreboard records the 2nd out. Pitcher was happy.

Apparently, the same girl comes back up, gets two balls thrown and then gets a single.
Then the other team says - why are there two outs? They asked me and I said we had one girl ground out and the last girl struck out. They said, no that girl is on first.

This was handled very poorly by the umps as they had me go to the opposing team’s scorer and they were like..no she didn’t strike out.

Umps weren’t sure and said she didn’t strike out. Even though the home ump said he did call the third strike.

Looked at their game changer replay and they “missed” the third pitch.

DH heard the batter and the first base coach admit, yes she struck out.

But somehow this team got away with it. Granted we would have probably still lost, but any ounce of respect I’d have this team is completely gone. The entire day was kind of ruined for me after that as well.

I am really curious if the players mom has it on video as well. I really wish it was a team that recorded their games. I just can’t see how they could live with themselves lying like that.

We record ours so we got some footage of some really awful umpires this weekend. I'm sick to death of them, honestly. I keep reading about unruly parents and coaches running them off, and I believe it. But at the same time, all I really want is for them to pay attention and know the rules. A bad call, on an action play? Whatever, we're all human. But these yahoos who don't even know the rules they're supposed to be enforcing really piss me off. Or times like this where they're not even paying attention. Like the ones who lose track of the count repeatedly. DUDE. You have a clicker, use it. I swear they're the worst thing about most tournaments we play in these days.

The same girl coming up to bat again, and completed the at bat, that is is batting out of order. Batter is out. 3 outs. End of the inning.

Furthermore, if the girl went into the dugout after what you thought was strike 3, she has left the playing field and her at bat is over, and an out is recorded, regardless of what happened at the plate.

It's possible no ill intent was intended. If the girl never entered the dugout, she may have been turned around by her coaches to return to the batter's box, believing it was only a 0-2 count. Pitches get missed by scorekeepers all the time (me being one), and it's also not uncommon for players to get confused about the count. That said, if the plate ump confirmed that strike 2 was called, that should have been the end of it.

Then again, maybe they are cheatin' bastages. No place for that in this game.

Yea I just don’t get how the other side missed the third strike. Our entire side saw it, cheered it. The pitcher knew, the pitchers parents knew. The ump even told me he called it. So wth didn’t he believe the home book?
I really should have been more diligent about checking #s. After they were allowed the extra at bat they went on to score another 6 runs on us. So yea I think it kind of screwed us up mentally.
I wasn’t really watching but I am assuming she never left the field and just came back up.
What gets me is this is a supposed Christian team.

You just learned a scorekeeper lesson ;) I've made the same mistake, too.

It seems to me (depending on the type of game, and age group), there are two proper courses of action...

1. Plate ump confirmed the strikeout, it's a strikeout (out #2) - regardless of what either scorekeeper says. If the same player came up to bat again, and she completed her at bat, she is also out (out #3). Inning over.

2. Mulligan!...Enter the K for out #2. Remove the player from 1B or the batter's box any time during or after her second at-bat, and send her to the dugout with no penalty. Bring up the next batter in the order. Play ball!

I could see this happening with a couple umps we see from time to time. They do not clearly say ball or strike and don't make a strike hand gesture. Multiple times an inning we have to ask for the call, it is ridiculous. A couple times we thought a girl should have been called out on strikes and ump didn't know the real call.

We had an issue in a HS game a few weeks ago. I am doing Gamechanger and had the score at 6-0 but the scoreboard had 7-0. I could not reconcile it and it was driving me nuts. What did I miss? Next thing you know the scoreboard has it has 10-0, game over mercy rule. I run over to our dugout and ask the manager what she has in her book. She says 9-0 and I have 9-0 as well. The dugouts had emptied, the umps were at the cars and the fans had emptied the stands. Game's not over!!! I run over to the opposing team and ask who is the official score keeper. A mom says me! What score do you have? She says 9-0. I told the opposing coach Game is not over. He says he counted 10. You are wrong my friend. They got the umps back on the field and finished the game. We needed one more out to flip the inning. Of course our pitcher throws a wild pitch and the runner scores. NOW it's game over!!

My favorite is parent yelling at coach, really they are yelling at DD.

Everyone knows it but they are to clever to yell at 10 year old.
