You can get that with signs as well.

I remember one time my DD 3 was pitching in a tournament. The catcher's signal hand was taped up, so DD 3 misread a sign. It was an 0-2 count, and a change-up right down the middle of the plate. I had a feeling of impending doom as the pitch approached the plate.

Afterwards, the coach, the catcher and DD 3 had an interesting talk. The signs were changed, and DD 3 was reminded that she could shake off a bad sign.

A few games later, coach really wanted DD 3 to throw a certain pitch. She kept shaking it off. Finally he asked her why. Coach was asking for a riseball, and DD 3 didn't know how to pitch a riseball. It was his OTHER pitcher that had a riseball.

Signals can get crossed with signs or with wristbands.

To your point, I do not care if God is the HC and Jesus is the catcher, you shake off anything fat down the middle. :)

The #1 thing I like about wristbands for pitchers is it slows them down! They take the sign at the back of the circle, proceed to the rubber, breathe and go. Matty Moss with the Vols is a textbook example of perfection with respect to this routine.
