While this subject is funny, there should seriously be a revamping of scoring all across the ball sports. It's ridiculous that a Pitcher gets 3 Earned runs against her because no one calls a simple popup with 2 outs and it falls for a triple. FC for a ball that hits off the fence because the runner fell down, etc. We should have methods for keeping track of blocks by a C. Saves by the 1B,etc to really track things. The argument against a revamp is that it will make stats meaningless, but I conclude that at lower levels they mostly are anyway.

It all evens it over time. Freshman year DD gave up back-to-back-to-back HR’s, all unearned.

The stats on MaxPreps are equally as worthless. (Yes, I realize they come from the same source). The team I currently coach is made up of 5 college players and 7 high school seniors. While I speak with each of the players often, I also check their stats through the college websites or through MaxPreps. I was a little confused by one player in particular. She is a very good hitter, but according to MaxPreps she is listed as having a .800 batting average (8 for 10). She was 0 for 3 when her team played against us. So if my math is correct, somehow she managed to get 8 hits in her other 7 at bats. That's pretty good...

The catcher's dad yelling at the shortstop as a throw from home goes 6 feet right of 2nd and 6 feet off the ground:

"You gotta get there!"

Who's doing the scorebook?

I always kept my DD's batting stats (not the whole teams, just hers). I am brutally honest to a fault, marking it an error if it is even close. She was one of the leading hitters on every team she played on (HS & TB) but oddly the kid who's parent kept the book always seemed to be barking at her heels (to everyone's amazement) and DD's stats were significantly lower than what I have. I mostly just kept my mouth shut until DD's senior HS season when the wrong stats were reported to the paper and I blew up to the coach.

My DD and head coaches DD have hit 1st and 2nd on team for the past two years. Both very good hitters who make a lot of contact.

Here's the comparison stat wise. You will only need 1 guess on who's wife keeps the book?

My DD - 263 PA with 20 ROE
Head Coach DD - 275 PA with 1 ROE, which happened this weekend.

It's just not possible to have 250+ plate appearance, consistently hit at a high rate, and never reach on an error. Especially playing 2nd year 12U and first year 14U where errors are a dime a dozen.

Either way your kid is getting on base. I like to include ROE in my own sort of OBA. If there really is a 20-1 differential for ROE I want to give the kid credit for getting on base 19 extra times.

I agree. If a kid is hitting the ball hard enough and in the right spots to roe then I don't really see much difference in that and a legit hit. Now maybe if you're stepping up a level of competition and don't expect those errors to be made but overall who cares.
