My daughter plays fastpitch high school softball and we had an away game. The starting pitcher was taken off the mound after completing the bottom of the 5th inning and she was losing the game by 2 runs. The top of the 6th inning our team went ahead and my daughter started pitching the 6th inning and 7th innings. The starting pitcher never pitched in the 6th and 7th innings. We went on to win the game and my daughter was listed with the save. Is this correct? I thought she should've been the winning pitcher. Any feedback would be great. Thanks

If your dd didn't pitch until after the team had already scored the go ahead run. She is not in line to get the win. Sounds to me like it was scored correctly

The first pitcher was the pitcher of record when your team took the lead. Then at the top of the 6th inning with a 2 run lead your DD became the pitcher of record. She then held off the other team for 2 innings earning the save. The first pitcher is the winning pitcher.

Thanks for the feedback. My dad and I were confused and weren't sure of the rules etc. I'll share this with him.

Others would argue both pitcher wins and saves are basically worthless stats for determining the true value of a pitcher.

NCAA Rule:

14.29.3 If a pitcher is removed from the game offensively by a batter or a base runner, all runs scored by her team during the remainder of that half inning are credited to her benefit in determining when her team is in the lead.

14.29.6.1 The winning pitcher is the pitcher on the lineup card at the moment her team takes the lead and keeps it.

My DD had a similar situation the other day. She came into the top of 5th with a one run lead, and unfortunately gave up one run which tied the game. Fortunately we scored some runs in the last two innings and won the game easily and she didn't give up any more runs. I noticed the starting pitcher got the win in game changer. Probably scored wrong, but I think my DD had a blown save but should of got the win. Keep in mind its a trivial point and doesn't really mean much and from a sentimental point the starting pitcher deserved the win.

I looked at the other teams score keeper and my DD had had the win. Im surprised Game Changer doesn't have logic built in that it rewards win based on the rules, but it does it appear to give the option to the scorekeeper who decides who gets credit for the win.

DD left the game after the 6th with a 13-5 lead.. other pitcher takes the 7th.. gives up 4 runs and gets the save? I have no understanding of that.
