Anyone have any idea what the launch of ESPN+ is going to mean for watching college softball? I watch a ton of games on the WatchESPN app. Is that now going to die and we'll have to cough up the subscription fee to watch any games or will we still get the games we've been getting?

With YouTube killing the Adela Dazeem account and being a DirecTV consumer, I am now without any way to watch most Pac12 games. I guess I'll cough up the fee during the softball season if all the college game are going to the new service.

It sure does appear that all the ESPN3 games and any others that aren't also broadcast on TV will be part of ESPN+.

So, if a game is on SEC Network and it's actually on channel 611 on DirecTV, I think you can stream it (as long as you have the channel as part of your TV package). But if it's one of the many SEC Network games that aren't actually on television, you're out of luck without the additional subscription.

At least that's my understanding.

Guess, I'll just add it in to my softball budget!

Curious about the impact of ESPN+ on WatchESPN myself...and googling various combinations of "ESPN+", "WatchESPN", "subscription", "impact", etc. has uncovered no information.

I'm hoping that since access to WatchESPN streams is tied to your cable subscription...you have to login/validate before being able to watch...ESPN+ will have no impact on that. After all, ESPN+ is supposed to be targetting "cutters" who don't want a traditional cable or satellite subscription.

The danger is that ESPN will pull premium content off of WatchESPN and only make it available on ESPN+. But, I'm sure that's exactly what they'll end up doing (the new Bob Knight 30 for 30 doc will be exclusively available on ESPN+, for example).

Tired of getting nickel and dimed.

Once ESPN got out of the sports coverage business and started moving into "entertainment", (low-intellect) politics, and other non-sport lanes, I came to realize I no longer had any interest in ESPN. A few softball games a year? I'll pick up the scores elsewhere. And now that DirecTV has added channel 320. I'll be dropping them at renewal time, too. The TV broadcasters are making it easier and easier for Americans to cut their monthly bills by a significant percentage. I'm still a sucker for SiriusXM radio, but just canceled my subscription with them, too.

I have no issue with companies changing their business models in order to evolve with the marketplace, but I have no reason to believe that ESPN+ will be as sport-centric as I would want. ESPN will have to try to win the next generation of clickbait consumers without my revenue to support it.

You don't have to watch anything on the app that you don't want to watch. I watch probably 7 or 8 SEC games via ESPN or SEC network on the watchespn app and I have never heard any political discussion. What is low intellect politics, by the way?
