What’s you thoughts about not having to throw the 4 pitches to walk a batter. Missouri changed this year and now all you have to do is tell them you want to walk her.

That happened to us here in GA at a school ball game. DD hit a Grand Slam the night before against a different team. The HC of this team was watching that game on Game Changer and saw and intentionally walked DD. Just had the umpire tell her to take her base. She was MAD! Wanted to hit.

I don't like it. I assume they do it to try and speed up the game but if you have runners on second and third and you want to try and walk someone it's not always as easy as it sounds. There could easily be a passed ball and that should be something you have to consider.

I prefer the rule. I think it's almost a waste of time to teach pitchers how to intentionally walk someone for the amount of times it comes up. I would prefer just to say 'take your base'.

I would agree but it sure seems to come up a lot on dds hs team. Before the rule he had her walk 2 in a row and pitch #8 went in the dirt and to the fence and lost the ballgame.

Of course the defensive coach doesn't want to have to throw the pitches, there is always a chance of missing, throwing it away, throwing an illegal pitch etc.

From a defensive coaches perspective, no you don't want the rule, you want that pitcher to have to throw all 4 pitches. There is a chance they can make a mistake you can capitalize on, and the pitcher just threw 4 pitches out of the zone, now she has to come right back to it.

It really does not save enough time to even worry about. Pro baseball did it first as a time saving feature but in reality there are so few intentional walks it maybe saves on average maybe a total of a minute. I will say, I have seen more intentional walks this year than I have seen total in the last 11 years.

And its not just Missouri, it is all of NFHS. States can opt for their own rules, but it isn't just that 1 state.

Disclaimer (pitcher's dad). But I like the rule, regardless of level of play, the 4 pitch intentional walk is a total waste of time. I've been on teams that benefitted from a wild pitch on an IBB, but still, for the one time out of 100,000 at any level over 14 it isn't worth the effort.

We run an aggressive offense and I see this rule as taking away 4 shots at an extra bag. You can't force an error if they don't have to throw the ball...
