It is possible the coaches were trying to make another point.
Softball people are detail oriented. Usually they are pretty smart, almost to a fault. But they as a whole tend to take things very literally and make simple things really complicated. And they dissect every move under a microscope.
Perhaps the coaches point was “don’t overthink every aspect of losses. We are trying to develop many things here and it will take time so quit nit picking every tiny gosh danged thing and try to look at the big picture.” There is rarely only one reason for a loss even though we tend to point at one event over the course of 4-5 innings and believe it is the difference maker.
