I use shinguards that go above my knee when I am catching for my daughter, but I got nailed above the guard. Ended up with my first very impressive black and blue mark from her pitching on my inner thigh.

Guess I finally earned the title of bucket dad.

while sitting on the bucket, just remember that if she ever makes it on tv first thing she will say is "Hi Mom"

If it makes you feel better I took a Anywhere ball off the forehead last week and my daughter laughed at me. Also, one of the fathers on my daughter 10u team went to the hospital last week. He was doing front toss with his daughter and she hit him in the head with a 11" softball. He had a mild concussion, and a big rear lump on his head.

Oh man...my husband stopped doing front toss without a screen at about that age. Even with it she's shot it through the opening and taken him down a few times. Hats off to the parents out there.

Sadly, I’ve had to give up my bucket time. I miss it so much too. DD has gotten too fast for my reaction time - even with catcher’s legs.
It’s just not the same.

I know that is going to happen for me in the near future. I feel for you, I know I will miss it also. I did not expect my practice time with my pitching DD to be so special.

Right Here For Now
I bought a full set of gear while DD was a Pitcher because a ball in the dirt chipped my shin bone so I know your pain well. When she became a catcher second year of 14U, she was actually big/tall enough to inherit my gear.

I haven't thrown her front toss without a screen since she was 9 and took out a former MLB player that was front tossing to her in coach pitch during an All-Star game. After that, after every pitch to her, he'd run back and behind the 1st baseman after releasing the pitch. It was quite comical to see this big burly guy run and hide behind a 9 year old girl after every pitch.
