That was a nearly heartbreaking read. Kudos to the author for making me feel as much as I did. Poor Ichiro. I used to love watching him play. I hope that he finds whatever it is he is searching for, and can retire from baseball peacefully one day soon.

Wright Thompson is a hell of a writer.

Thanks for the link patter, very interesting read. Getting old is terrible! I still remember in 2001 when he came to Seattle, it was almost billed as the second coming.......he didn't disappoint! He set the city of Seattle on fire, Mariner tickets were impossible to get. He was a true hitting magician!! I also remember the first time I saw him throw a BB from RF to 3B, he set the tone right then, you don't even think of trying to take an extra base on him! He is/was the true definition of an athlete striving for perfection!

Definitely one of my favorite ballplayers...I'm with other poster though hoping he figures out life after baseball this should be his farewell tour, before he rides off into the HOF.

Its relevant because he is a lefty slapper.

Only because he chose to, watch videos of him taking batting practice...bomb after bomb...when Bonds was Marlins hitting coach guess who he said hit the most HR during BP not Stanton and not Ozuna it was Ichiro and that's 43 yr old Ichiro...Bonds said he could have won the HR derby hands down...Ichiro said he could hit 40 HRs but only if he hit .220 which seems a little far fetched given more walks (pitched around) he would be bound to get but in the end I liked the singles hitter. I'm taking some time off this summer though so maybe I'll go to a game and sit in right field during BP and get a souvenir.

They said the same thing about Wade Boggs.
